Say Anything: Zarqawi Dead?

Good point Doc. Same thing applies for bin Laden. Terrorism does not begin and end with any of these guys. It is an ideology that must be defeated, not any one man or group of men.

Still, it'd be nice to see Zarqawi in a body bag.

Zarqawi dead or alive, I wouldn't get too excited over the possibilities of peace. As has been seen in the Palestine -Israel conflict, every time the Israels off one of the terrorists leaders, another rises to assume the leaders role. I think that too often we forget that we are fighting an terrorist ideology which much more difficult to combat than a few individual terrorists.

Oh, of itself his death won't end anything. But the death of one of the Jihadis' heros surly must have the effect of demoralizing them--which has to be helpful to us.

No question that Zarqawi needs to be gone like Saddam needed to be gone and like Assad in Syria, the head man in Iran, the leader in North Korea and all other tyrants need to be gone. Offing all these guys in itself does not stabilize the affected areas for the long term. That's why the withdrawal of our forces and influence in any foreseeable time frame is not advisable.
