Say Anything: Trump Offers Design For New World Trade Center

  • richard · 4 years ago
    Gee let us see.

The man that has millions claiming bankruptcy wants to build trade towers that are exactly like the ones brought down. Maybe he has some ulterior motive.
  • Don Myers · 4 years ago
If you really want to send a positive message, build things that Manhattan really needs---like afforable middle class housing, or public spaces for ALL New Yorkers and not just the wealthy.

Rebuilding 2 ugly phallic boxes filled with oil conglomerates, lawyers, and union-busting development firms sends a simple message all right: "We're a bunch of stupid blockheads and we've learned NOTHING."
  • Aaron · 4 years ago
build trade towers that are exactly like the ones brought down

They are basically the same, but taller. It sends a very simple message: You may hit us, but we'll just stand back up better than before. You can't bring us down.

I think it's great, let's go for it. Better than the 60-story + huuuuge antenna "Freedom Tower." I never liked that, and the 1776 feet idea was way too cheasy...
  • Aaron · 4 years ago
Yes, a 100-story public school building.... great idea Don...
  • Aaron · 4 years ago
I'm being realistic in noting that there is a lot of business that would pay money to rent space in a large building similar to the WTC...

Building a school there would be a waste of money and space. There are much better places to build schools that don't hold such symbolism.
  • Don Myers · 4 years ago
School, affordable housing, public spaces...why the hell are you AGAINST those things, Aaron? Is lining the pockets of Dubya's campaign cotributors that important to you?
  • likwidshoe · 4 years ago

There are public spaces for "ALL" New Yorkers now. It's a city that one can freely enter and leave.

Public Schools I forgot how desperately Manhattan needs good public schools! We should be build great schools instead of ugly office blocks

Where did Aaron say that he was against these things Don? Oh yeah...he didn't.

    Moonbat alert! Whoop! Whoop! Whoop!
  • Aaron · 4 years ago
The hell are you talking about Don? Are you anti-skyscraper? They symbolise capitalism too clearly for you?
  • Mr. Bowen · 4 years ago
NYC would have plenty of affordable middle class housing, (not to mention lower class) if it would just abolish rent control. Don Myers, you ignorant slut.

Fuck off, Don. The adults are trying to have a conversation.

I think Trump's idea is great -- assuming the towers really are built much stronger.

People are going to be reminded of the loss no matter what -- if the space (and skyline there) remain blank, or if there's some totally new structure, or replacements for the old towers that look nearly the same.

I like making them look the same ... it does indeed send a better message to terrorists, and to ourselves. And I think it is the "least sad" option.

I hope that's what they do.
  • bob baxter · 4 years ago
I DON'T AGREE WITH ''TRUMP'' ON A LOT OF THE THINGS HE DOES SAY, IN FACT IF HE WAS WORKING FOR ME, I WOULD FIRE HIM. BUT ON REBUILDING THE WORLD TRADE CENTER, I AGREE WITH HIM 100% ON HIS PLANS AND HIS IDEAS. SO YOU CAN VIEW IT LIKE IT WAS BEFORE 9-11. BEFORE AND AFTER CAN BE THE SAME THEME. OR CLOSE TO IT. WITH-OUT GOING ON AND ON, TRUMP'S GOT MY VOTE. Bob Baxter
  • Daniel · 4 years ago
Well, i just read the news today, and i saw an architectural proposal for the "new" WTC by this guy called Trump (dont know who is he and don't want to know either). I didn´t have much time to look at the approved proposal so i cant say it is good or it is bad, but i need to say, because i've seen here that many of you believe that architecture is about sending hidden messages to people, of course i think it isn't. Architecture is not about meanings at all, because meanings are too relative and vary from one person to another, watching it in that way people tend to reduce the real value of a well designed building, a building that responds to many of the requirements of the site, environment, people, users and of course structure.

There is something uniquly different about the new WTC though. This isn't just any building. ANYTHING that is built will hold tremendous symbolic value to all Americans for decades to come...

    Dear Mr Trump,
Thanks so much for trying to reopen the Twin Tower design issue. I've been very dissappointed in the other proposed designs! Let's rebuild "Twin Towers", lets redesign the antennas to not be so massive, let's add a circular heliport at the top of each tower with a helicopter permanently assigned to each tower, let's interconnect the towers at a few points. Stuart Resor, Cardiff, Ca.
  • Steele · 4 years ago
Your hired Don, the first thing that went through my mind when it came to rebuilding the towers is, wouldnt it be great to have things the way there were, i thing everyone would of shed a tear when they realised that THEY WOULD NEVER SEE THE TWIN TOWERS AGAIN, well heres our chance to see them again.
  • Chris · 4 years ago
Don is right, you should all learn a lesson from the past...

I agree with trump 100% two big towers is just what new york needs. being a New Yorker every time i pass the site of the old towers there is a gloomy feeling and the freedom tower will do nothing but add to that gloom. We need to move on....remember what happened and be thankful to those that gave there live but still MOVE ON.
  • Howard Steinhardt · 4 years ago
With due respect to those families that lost loved ones on 9/11, the last thing New York City needs at the WTC site is a cemetery or a Halloween skeleton! New York is the capitol of the world and symbolism is very important. The Towers should be rebuilt as an act of defiance to those who took down the buildings that were there. I hope Trump pursues this and uses his limitless powers of persuasion to influence Mr. Silverstein to go along with him. The biggest obstacle to correcting the process that is in the dumps right now is Governor Pataki. The sooner we get rid of him, the sooner New York will recover its position as the Empire State!!!!!
  • KC · 4 years ago
Trump is right. When I saw the new design it seemed like a capitulation to the terrorists. An empty vessel sticking meekly up into the sky where once stood tall proud towers. It was "Please don't hurt us again, Osama" in steel. Build 'em back taller and bolder in defiance of the murdering Islamo-fascists. God bless Trump.
  • Angie · 4 years ago
I think that building the towers similar to the way they were, would be too painful for the survivors and family members of lost loved ones of 9/11......come on TRUMP, lets get some new life to this space. Building something there anyway, is just going to result in the building going bankrupt anyway, as I wouldn't want an office or an apartment on the very grounds that so many died! How morbid. The vacancy rate won't change, there will always be vacancy, therefore one would have to give the space away for CHEAP!

Lets just put a huge memorial statue there or something, instead of rebuilding, and pay our respects to those who we have lost!
  • TC-LeatherPenguin · 4 years ago
Angie, sorry to disagree with you, but as someone who attended near 100 funerals/memorials for WTC victims, Trumps plan--putting it right back, only bigger and stronger--is exactly what I want to see. I want a grand "Screw you bastards!" message sent.

That Freedom Tower design is an atrocity.
  • likwidshoe · 4 years ago
Building something there anyway, is just going to result in the building going bankrupt anyway...

Why do you assume that? The site sits on prime real estate. Rent goes for a premium there.
  • Aaron · 4 years ago

I know if I was a business man in NY, I would be very interested in relocating to the new Twin Towers if they were built as Trump wants them. Not true of everyone, I'm sure, but I think that there are plenty of people who would be very interested in being part of the big F-U to the terrorists who took the originals down...
  • Angie · 4 years ago
Bye the way Aaron, WELL SAID!
  • Angie · 4 years ago
Seriously, put it this way, the twin towers are rebuilt, "bigger and better", would you REALLY feel safe working and or renting a space inside? They rebuild them, it's just asking for another attack. Let's just leave what's done as done, and make a final memorial site for the poor people that lost their lives. I don't agree with rebuilding, and I am sure that I am not the only one that feels this way.
  • Andrew · 4 years ago
    Aaron,
I'd have to disagree with you. I don't think very many people would want to work in a new WTC. My family and I knew a few people who worked in the old WTC and more than half of them did not want to continue to work in New York, let alone a new WTC (which would likely be a target to another attack).

While I think a big "F U" to the terrorists is great, I just don't think America's ready to rebuild. While many will say that if we don't rebuild now "the terrorists have won", it is important to keep in mind that neither have we yet.
  • TC-LeatherPenguin · 4 years ago
Andrew & Angie: Would you put your business, or ass, in the Empire State or Chrysler buildings? They are the big guys in the sky right now. You think someone, somewhere, is not currently (and previously) thinking how to blow them up?

This is NYC: every bastard with an agenda is looking to hit our shit.

Following your logic, the WTC should have been abandoned in 1993, following the first bombing. And now the USA should roll over like the "Delta" dog in a wolfpack and allow some ghosts to decree what--and who--we are?

You obviously ain't from New York.
  • Aaron · 4 years ago
    TC~

Haha. Andrew and Angie are a few of many who feel that way, but it doesn't mean they're wrong not to want to put their own lives in a new WTC. I just believe that there are enough people in New York that feel like you and I to fill those towers back up quick.

I think doing NOTHING would be the worst of all options. SOMETHING has to be built back there. And by something, I don't mean a memorial. I mean some building has to go back up. We can't have a gaping hole or an empty park there forever as a reminder, we need something even BETTEr as a reminder.

We just have to agree to disagree obviously since we're all talking of our own feelings and who knows what the public as a whole feels about this tower...
  • Aaron · 4 years ago
I have reason to believe Aaron and Angie aren't New Yorkers

No, I'm not a New Yorker, I'm a Sacramentian (Sac, CA)... but I'm on your side on this, I think you meant Andrews not me...
  • Adrian Keenan · 4 years ago
My dad worked on the 102nd floor of One World Trade Center (better known as the North Tower) for about 20 years. All I can say is I have reason to believe Aaron and Angie aren't New Yorkers. Why is the WTC the lone target of all this rhetoric? Should we abandon the Empire State Building? The Library Tower? Citicorp Center? Should we build nothing higher than 5-6 floors? If Trumps Twin Towers were to be built, they would quickly become one of the biggest tourist destinations in the world, meaning, tax revenues from observation deck fees, food and drink, etc. My dad said he'd go back to the 102nd Floor in a heartbeat. And you know what? I would too. Scrap the entire Freedom Tower proposal, and let the Twin Towers rise above Manhattan once again.
  • Adrian Keenan · 4 years ago
    Ah I'm sorry.
  • Angie · 4 years ago
Well, whatever happened to having an opinion??? Thought so. I actually live in Toronto, so sorry for feeling sorry for all the lives lost, and paying tribute to them......you won't have my sympathy next time!

Calm down and grow up. They just disagree with your idea.
  • richard · 4 years ago
You guys are missing one huge factor here. Everything and I mean everything that Trump touches files bankruptcy it is part of his business plan. If we let this guy get his hands on any part of this he will make Haliburton like little angels.
  • TC-LeatherPenguin · 4 years ago
Well, whatever happened to having an opinion??? Thought so. I actually live in Toronto, so sorry for feeling sorry for all the lives lost, and paying tribute to them……you won’t have my sympathy next time!
NYC never wanted anybody's symapthy, toots: we wanted payback. We wanted to to show whoever was behind the attack--and anyone who would even think of pulling it again--that we pick ourselves up off the floor and pound our enemies into the and even bigger pile of dust than they delivered on us. And then we go right back to doing what we do, and being who we are. We are New York "F--king" City, baby! No one can make us bow, and you can take your maple leafed pseudo sympathy and shove it into one of those hapless tin cans your navy runs and send it out to sea.

richard: As far as Trump and bankruptcy, take his casinoes out of the mix and I'll put Trump's portfolio up against anyone's. His real estate holdings are among the priciest buildings in the city, and never want for tenents. It's those purely-for-vanity's-sake Atlantic City white elephants that cause his financial woes. Which is why he got money from investment banks after his last cashflow crisis, who made him agree to better seperate those albatrosses from his real estate holdings, which are pure money machines. If he was as bad as you purport, he'd have been forced into forclosing on most of his Manhattan holdings years ago. Instead, he's still putting them up and selling them out.
  • MR Smith · 4 years ago
Totally agree with Trump, rebuild the same towers only better and taller.

Would I work in the top floors? Ummm prolly not. That would be the biggest obstacle.
Do I think a Jetliner will crash into another building? I dont think so, but I wouldnt want to have to think about it everyday.
Even with that said I think we should rebuild the towers without a major redesign.
  • Manhattanite · 4 years ago
REBUILD! I love the new WTC! I thought of the same idea, about putting up the old facade, for memorials, but that's before I thought anyone would propose a WTC replica. Now we can have both, towers, too. BRILLIANT! We have always erected the finest gravestones for anyone we loved dearly and passed on. Not to say these great monuments are gravestones, but people who visit will be able to pay tribute to all who have lost their lives. They will gain a tiny bit of familiarity and closeness with the victims. Every time you are in the new WTC, you WILL Remember, you will, possibly, hate, you WILL hurt, and you WILL heal.
If you really want these new WTC towers, that Trump has introduced, go sign the petition @ http://www.thepetitionsite.com

From where I live in Jersey, I can see the entire skyline from lower Manhattan past the Empire State Building. Now that the towers are gone, it looks bare and lacking a nice contour. I would love to see them redo the old buildings. In their worst hour, these buildings withstood an airplane attack and didn't just fall over. The way those two buildings fell was a miracle. It looked like a precision job done by professionals. Imagine what would've happened if they had fallen even slightly to the side.

Skyscrapers are the heart of an American City. To rebuild the simple yet aw inspiring Twin Towers would be the greatest boost for NYC. Trumph understands that a city needs commerce and not some "Open Field" Many people are opposed but many of them do not live in the City. And do not know or understand the workings of city life and how much the Towers symbolized New York and American Power and Freedom. We need to bring back American Pride
  • Randall · 4 years ago
As most of you say rebuild! I say reconstruct. As real estate of historic architecture. Reconstruct exact trade centers, as the exterior appears. Only improve on its weaknesses. Respect comes to mind(for all families that lost loved ones, being able to visit exact locations of lost ones)along with innovation and enhanced technology that today's world offers. Stop the building of the freedom towers, and let a Trump legacy with his knowledge and skill create a masterpiece that lives forever. No more, no less of a structure. All American pride...
