Say Anything: The Simpsons Follows In John Kerry's Shoes

Don't mess with The Simpsons,
you ain't got the firepower.
• Dave_Comet · 3 years ago
The Simpsons episodes are written over a year in advance. It's just a coincidence.

Matt Groeing has always crapped on the military, and the Simpson's has always leaned left.
• Angus McMurphy · 3 years ago
I'll be first in line to say that the Simpsons isn't nearly as funny as it used to be, but to say it has "always leaned left" is bit off.

I mean the show had Clinton both saying "I'm a pretty lousy president" and 'admitting' that he had sex with pigs.

When Grandpa Simpson started getting checks from the "Itchy and Scratchy" show for Bart and Lisa's ghostwritten episodes, he was asked why he didn't get suspicious of getting money for nothing. His reply was that he just figured the Democrats were back in power.

The Simpsons makes fun of everybody.

They make fun of just about everyone... they've done the Navy, Masons (Stonecutters), Christians, Liberals, the French, the UN, the US, Republicans, Democrats, Hindus, X-files, Clinton, Bush, etc.

I don't think they've made fun of Muslims...
Bart: Didn't you wonder why you were getting checks for doing absolutely nothing?

Grandpa: I figured 'cuz the Democrats were in power again.
Wow, I guess Fox and The Simpsons forgot to check with SayAnything and HotAir to see what is "permissible" for jokes.

Give me a break. What a bunch of whiney babies.

this cartoon like southpark has torn into every other part of our culture and this is the one everyones up in arms about. I am in the military and I took no offense.
• MyPetGloat · 3 years ago
Hmmm.. Not too long ago wingnuts were taking umbrage over Muslims being upset over a cartoon..

Ah thats right, the rules only apply to some....
• Rob · 3 years ago
There's a difference between being upset and critical of a cartoon's depiction of our military service people as dumb and duped, and rioting and murdering because of a cartoon depicting Mohamed.

Only an idiot would try to draw equivalence there.

MPG,

Give it a rest! There is a world of difference between objecting to your religious faith being disparaged (hell, Don Rickles used to make a very comfortable living making fun of everyone!), and burning cars, and buildings, rioting in the streets, and killing people in response to the caricature. Seems to me that you are the one whose perspective is woefully mis-aligned.

Besides, I don't recall that liberals are all that fond at having their belief system held up to the ridicule it richly deserves.

The Simpsons has jabbed everyone, it leans left a predominate amount of the time. Get the Simpsons DVDs and listen to the episode commentaries. In very short order you will get the drift.

<shrug> I'll take your word for it. I tivoed and burned almost the whole run, so I don't have the commentaries. But whatever way the creators and writers lean, their writing shows a willingness to poke fun at all sides. That's good enough for me.

Just tonight I watched the one where Bart pissed off Australia with the prank (collect) phone call:

Homer: Are we going to land on an aircraft carrier?

Pilot: No sir. The closest vessel is the U.S.S. Walter Mondale. It's a laundry ship.

Angus, Wifey has worked for years recording them on VHS, now we are buying the DVD season sets. And yes, the Simpsons does jab everyone, and yes, they do lean left.
• Angus McMurphy · 3 years ago
2Hotel9, as I said, I'll take your word for it. I'm not sure what more you want from me.
• 2Hotel9 · 3 years ago
I want you to purchase the Simpsons DVDs, thus making Matt Groening vastly wealthy, then he will move into the penthouse of a hotel in Las Vegas and become a creepy hermit and,,,,,,wait. Or is that a Simpsons episode. Never mind.
