Say Anything: SafeLink Wireless: A Government Welfare Program For Cell Phones

• 2hotel9 · 1 month ago
More bragging from the welfare whore and thief. Too funny. Tell us? How much do you "earn" each week stealing from MS donation cans, welfare whore?

Spark? Her "disorder" is chemical based. Notice she shows up right after her ACCESS card got monied up and she got her "stuff" for the week.
• SOUR DULCE · 1 month ago
WHAT THE HELL IS AN ACCESS CARD? AND WOULD YOU SHUT UP WITH THE WELFARE ALREADY.....QUITE OLD. I DONT GET WELFARE. BUT YOU SEEM TO KNOW ALL ABOUT IT.
• 2hotel9 · 1 month ago
You are a welfare whore and a theif, you have come here and bragged about being both.

spark? Her condition is chemical related, and it worsens each month when her ACCESS card gets monied up.
• SOUR DULCE · 1 month ago
UH NO, IM NOT ON WELFARE, IM ON SSD. NOT WELFARE. I DONT GET FOOD STAMPS, OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT.
• Kenny · 1 month ago
So basically, by your own admission, Annoyed, you get a lot of crap for free, and yet you have the nerve to tak about people with "silver spoons".

Here's the reality of life chump. People who work, who bust their asses, get angry when those who don't want to work demand free cell phones on their dime. Since, by your own admission, you do absolutely nothing, and get everything for free, I can see how this concept is foreign to you.

Sympathy is keeping someone who is having a tough run of luck from starving. Welfare is giving lazy douchebags like yourself free phones.
• ANNOYED · 1 month ago
LIKE I SAID.....I DONT GET WELFARE. I DONT GET WELFARE, I DONT GET WELFARE. HELLO? I DONT GET WELFARE. I AM ON DIABILITY, BECAUSE MY OWN IMMUNE SYSTEM ATTACKS THE MUSCLE TISSUE IN MY BODY, AND THERE ARE DAYS, WEEKS, WHEN IM PRETTY MUCH UNABLE TO MOVE/WALK. SO I SPEND MY TIME, ONLINE HELPING CHARITIES, SORT THROUGH QUESTIONS, DOCUMENTS, WHAT HAVE YOU. AND WHEN IM WELL, I VOLUNTEER MY TIME AT FOOD BANKS, AND WITH THE VETS, AND BATTERED WOMEN....AND SUCH. YES I HAVE A LOT OF FREE LUXURY'S, AND I GUESS IF YOU WANT THEM, GO WORK AT A CABLE COMPANY AND STOP COMPLAINING.
• badlands4 · 1 month ago
I am sorry you suffer like that. However, you need to get off the "poor-me" it doesn't work well for you in any way, other than to feed your bitterness and anger, AND, it is a total and complete INSULT to all the millions upon millions of disabled people who don't want to be singled out because of their disability and manage to overcome the most extreme circumstances to be a productive and active part of this country without demanding attention because of their situation.

When we volunteer, we should learn a lesson about self-LESS-ness, and appreciation not continue to be SELF-ish and so totally focused on yourself. You seem to want to be rewarded for volunteering, when the very spirit of the word means to give of yourself WITHOUT EXPECTING ANYTHING BACK.

If it wasn't for all those greedy, money grubbing, "haters" YOU would have NONE of your "luxuries", because your husband would not have a job were it not for all those selfish pigs who PAY FOR THEIR OWN CABLE.
• ANNOYED · 1 month ago
I DONT RECALL SAYING SILVER SPOONS. CUZ ACTUALLY I WAS BORN INTO A PRETTY WEALTHY FAMILY. BUT ATLEAST I CAN APPRECIATE THE FACT THAT THERE ARE OTHERS WHO WERE LESS FORTUNATE, AND I SPEND MY TIME TRYING TO HELP THOSE IN NEED.
AND F*CK BUSH.
• Goon · 1 month ago
We should not have our income and freedom taken from us because some are too lazy or unforunate to have what others have.

You seem to spend all your time whining about why you deserve everything in life. Funny, the poorest people in the world, living in the slums of Mumbai in tin shacks with raw sewage flowing through their homes don't complain as much as you do....oh, they all pay for their own cellphones as well.

So, you are saying that you, an American living with free cable, is suffering because you wouldn't have a 19.00 or 29.0(whatever the correct amount is) cellphone?

Have you ever lived overseas??? I have, and I can say confidence, that you HAVE NO CLUE.
• MRS. ANNOYED · 1 month ago
UM, I GET FREE PHONE, CABLE AND INTERNET.....THANK YOU. BECAUSE MY HUSBAND WORKS FOR THE COMPANY. ITS THEIR PERK. I DONT LIVE IN MUMBAI, I LIVE IN THE US. SO BASICALLY ID RATHER WORRY ABOUT US PROBLEMS, THAN THEIRS. IM NOT THE ONE COMPLAINING. YOU GUYS ARE. IM RANTING ABOUT YOU BASHING PEOPLE THAT ARE LOW INCOME, OR ON WELFARE, OR SINGLE MOMS, AND THINGS TO THAT NATURE. BUT YOU SEEM TO DENSE TO REALIZE IT.

I am so sorry that your tax money has to pay for my cell phone now that I am 80 years old, living on social security, and medical bills up the wazzooo.

A Tracphone and 68 minutes of airtime a month.

So why can't they just buy all of their minuets and save taxpayers the expense of funding and administering this stupidity?

What a joke. Now those that don't have a cell phone are below the poverty level. Since I don't own a cell phone maybe I should apply for relief.

I was under the assumption that lifeline was for those poverty level, very low income who are on fixed income. Lifeline will give you one of those deals you press "Iv fallen and I can't get up". We all make choices in this world.

Keep in mind some people are hit with incurable diseases in the prime of there life. They spend all they had saved for retirement on medical.

I would not take a bus as I was afraid I would get to weak and down I go on some boulevard. Getting a cell phone gave me less fear to go out alone, saved me a couple times from heat sickness to call for a cab and independence.

I personally chose not having a regular hard line phone and just a cell. Just calls from nurses and such, no family really left to chat to so it still was to much.

I use Net10 owned by tracphone "hmmm" but a much better deal.

Please don't lump disabled into the same basket as leeches. It would be cheaper to not include able to work low income. I believe low income level in ND is like 15 thousand a year for one person. If I got that I would be very happy and could never hold my head up if I applied for government stuff.

Not everyone who gets a cell or has internet uses it for posting on political sites. They use the net to monitor there health, news of new medications being studied that brings them hope, offering support and getting it from others who have chronic health conditions. Buying groceries to be delivered since I personally cant carry bags and bags. researching ways to save money.

Now nobody said that this was unlimited calling, could be they get enough mins for emergency's and have to pay for extra. This would be good then in my opinion. They might be the one calling for help and it could be one of us.

YOU KNOW WHAT, I OWN ONE OF THESE "FREE" PHONES, AND ITS NOT BECAUSE IM POOR OR ON WELFARE, THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I HAPPEN TO BE DISABLED AT 31 YEARS OLD, AND HAVE 2 CHILDREN. THIS PHONE IS A SAFETY MEASURE TO PROTECT THE LESS FORTUNATE IN THIS COUNTRY. I GET 68 MINUTES A MONTH BIG FLIPPING WHOOTY DO!! IM SURE THAT REALLY COMPARES TO YOUR CELL PHONE CONTRACTS DONT IT, THAT GIVE YOU ABOUT 100 MINUTES A MONTH, OR UNLIMITED. I WORKED FROM THE AGE OF 13 UNTIL I BECAME DISABLED AT 29. SO I FEEL I BOUGHT THIS DAMN $29.00 PHONE IN MY YEARS OF WORK. SO IF THAT HURTS ALL OF YOUR ALL FEELINGS SO BADLY THEN I DONT KNOW WHAT TO TELL YOU. MAYBE IT PISSES ME OFF THAT IM DISABLED AND YOUR NOT. SO BEFORE YOU GUYS START RUNNING YOUR BIG ASS MOUTH ABOUT BEING POOR AND PEOPLOE GETTING FREE PHONES, WHY DONT YOU LEARN THE FACTS 100%.

AND PS, I LIKE THIS POST HERE.....SOUNDS LIKE THEY HAVE SOME SENSE..

GOD FORBID SOMETHING SHOULD EVER HAPPEN TO ANY OF YOU PERFECT PEOPLE.
• Shinnob_nd · 9 months ago
googled this great cell deal. You get 68 mins a month on there el cheapo no frills phone. Actually my 28 dollar net10 phone from the dollar store is not as cool.

This really is not a incentive for anyone to get this deal unless they truly where poor for a reason. You still have to pay for extra mins. This seams more like a spending deal for Tracphone rather than helping low income. You can already get started fairly cheap with prepaid.

Now if they gave out really cool phones it might seam in excess. Now they will not have to pay 15.00 a month to keep the phone active. But it also encourages spending for more mins.

Sounds like tracphone made out like a bandit with this deal. Give poor folks crummy phones knowing they will pay for more mins once the phone is in hand!. All this funded by the taxpayer and using low income people as the excuse.

If Im not mistaken you could apply for like 17.00 off of your phone service if you met income requirements. This would be any phone company. One phone only, so now are they adding this to the other program in place?. Seams funny tracphone got this government funding. Why not a discount on any cell phone so one could then go with the best bargain?. Not how capitalism works.

Actually if you dont sit on the phone and chat with your friends, this phone should save alot of peoples lives if they are used for emergencies only. So there is no reason to buy extra minutes if it is used just for that. I know of alot of elderly people who cant afford home phone services and it has helped them get to the hospitals when needed. I worked all of my life and now that I am disabeled and on social security, after all of the bills are paid (yes we pay bills just like you) there isnt any money left over for crap. A free phone is better then none at all in alot of situations. And you have to qualify for it. So dont be mean to the poor, alot of us helped build this country.
• Penny · 9 months ago
OK people, first off not everyone on goverment asssitance is lazy or doesn't want to work. I am a single mom of two older kids now. When my husband came home early from work and said he wanted to talk, I said can it wait until my friends leave, he said no, and then he said "I DON'T LOVE I NEVER HAVE AND I NEVER WILL, I WANT A DIVORCE), Talk about a shock. At that time my kids were aroud 3- 3 1/2 and my youngest was 18 months when the divorce became final. I went on food stamps, and at that time ADC, now it is cash assistance. I worked full time, and you had to work 20 hours to receive things. I've always worked, but needed that little extra help. Now, I've been on medical so I am getting unemployment, I am looking for a job as I want to work. I lost my insurance because my unemployment put over the limit. We still get food stamps and my daughter still gets medicaid. I would love a cell phone not only for me, but for my daughter as well. I;d like one because with the kind of work I do I go from house to house to take care of elderly people. I have my certification for home health aide. If I get lost, or have a flat, I can't call my supervisor to let them know what is going on. My daughter has her license and it would make me feel better if she had a phone for emergencis. So, please don't put all people down just because they get help. I mean I know there are people that abuse the system and that makes me mad. But, like I said please don't be mad at all of us.
• cado · 1 month ago
Up until about 10 years ago, people such as myself seemed to survive ok wothout a cell phone. This lame excuse that you NEED a cell phone is bull. It is a device of convenience, plain and simple. In the extremely rare event of a flat, walk to a phone. Need to call someone?...wait until you get to a phone. I'm afraid of what is happening to society where the luxury of convenience becomes a basic need for those who can not afford it
• History Chaser · 9 months ago
Are these phones capable of taking photos? I would guess not although that was the explanation of how the guy who took a picture of Michelle Obama working in a soup kitchen was able to afford a cell phone.

As for the last comment,no they do not take pictures they are just small basic black phones w/out web capability also.I know because I have one.I am also disabled and I also have my own pay as you go phone but the trouble is I can't afford the time. Also I sorta hate to go there but I feel like people who rant and rave about what their tax dollars are being spent on are simply jealous, they don't get things because they don't classify as poor and yet the more you have the more you want that is why the government doesn't leave the choice up to idiots like this because if they,They would be whizzing past starving babies in their new benz.toodles

• PD · 9 months ago
A basic Tracphone is now $7.99 at Target and 60 minutes of time costs, I believe, $20.00 with Tracphone (I have been checking out prepaid phones lately). Actually Tracphone's minutes are the highest of all the prepaid carriers (becasue their phones are the cheapest). So you are all complaiing about $20.00 a month so a person can have a whopping 60 minutes of airtime a month --at any rate, that does allow you to use it for emergencies and call and get messages from prosepctive employers etc. IF you have been homeless or very broke and without a phone (I have), you understand exactly how necessary a phone is and how cut off and isolated you are without one. And I am always puzzled about those who cry about 'their' tax dollars going to help someone -- there are not many people who have never worked and paid tax dollars into these programs. That means if I am poor, and I need to access some benefits, its likely I already funded it myself through teh taxes I paid for years . And another little piece of info for you--In California, if a single person draws welfare ("GR")--a massive 200.00 a month for a limited time, they have to PAY IT BACK. You have to sign liens and if you dont pay it back, they will take it out of your SS when you hit 65. So if you dont want people to access any benefits like this, try being a good neihghbor, family member, friend, sister/brother in Christ, etc to people you know who are struggling. These programs would not nned to exist if everyone was willing to lend a hand to those in their lives, when needed, PERSONALLY. WSe used to do that in the past, now we dont seem to want to dirty out hands personally and then complain when people have to turn to the government for help
• Frustrated at 33 · 4 weeks ago
I have been paying taxes out of my check since I was old enough to work, age 14. At age 25 with a three year old son I went to request emergency assistance (3 months of aid ONLY) after being laid off of work. I was offered $12.00 a month in food stamps. No housing, no insurance, no check. I was told I could not qualify for more because, now get this, I had such of a long employment history. This is the frustration you hear from tax payers. Others who make no attempts to work get all of the assistance while those of us who put the money in can not qualify when needed. It is not that we are un-Christian or hateful, it is that the system has failed us. What was once suppose to be there as a safety net has become life long income for some people. I pay for a cell phone and not a home phone because I cannot afford both. However, money is now being taken out of my check for a luxury to those who don't care enough to WANT more out of their life. A CELL PHONE IS NOT A NECCESSITY! Food, clothing, shelter those are. And according to the Republicans, health insurance is also a luxury so why are we giving it away to those who do not deserve it?
• 2hotel9 · 3 weeks ago
That is the disconnect. All these "services" were created to assist people short term, and in reality they are abused by people long term.

And for all the leftards following this thread, yes, minorities are a small fraction of the % of people abusing the system. Whites are by far the largest part of the abusers. Wow, that ought to have them screeching in short order!

Why is everyone blaming the current administration on safelinks existance? I did a google search that took me all of two seconds that my 5 year could have done and see a post on a message board dated OCTOBER 15, 2008!!! Who's administration was that?

Some countries take care of their less fortunate and ederly but lets face it we live in a country based on greed. And who are most of the comments from...the greedy.

There will always be people who take advantage of a system, we all know that, and we know that not enough is done to prevent it...BUT are we really the type of people who beleive in persecuting a whole group based upon a few?

I have a tracfone and I got when I started making less money and tried to find ways to cut corners. So I have it for only emergencies and my sons grandparents to call. I dropped my internet also to save money.

This is a hard time for many people and not just the poor. Those of you who are working and getting paid good are not having the easiest time either because of this economy and some times I see people out rushing busting their A*& and I feel for them almost king themselves while the government doesn't care...enough...and I feel for you as well as those who are poor cause it's not good right now on either side. Maybe one can sleep just a tiny bit easier than the other but not much.

Maybe if some who are so negative and so busy looking to see that the other isn't gettin more than them and feeling themselves worthy of being the judge of what's fair and right just stopped spreading sooooo much negativity and hate the whole world would be a much better place.

Reading these comments...makes me ashame that you people represent the majority of peoples views in this country. I am truly disgusted.
• Sherry · 9 months ago
Oh and before some one misunderstands...I pay for all my minutes and when I don't have the extra money I just don't have a phone and pray that I won't have an emergency until I get more minutes.

I looked it up...they only get 68 minutes a month and then have to buy extra minutes. No facy phone but guess what...tracfone has a special right now $29 and double minutes for life and you get a picture flip phone. So if the person spends $29 and then switches the number over to the nice phone yes I think it is possible that they could have a picture phone.

And tracfone uses bonus promotional codes...so buying a $20 60 minute card...I usually get 90-120 minutes after using a bonus code.

So in my opinion a really savvy person could get 68 minutes on the governement and then 120 minutes more (for a total of 188 minutes per month) and only ever end up spending $20 per month on their phone.
• 2Hotel9 · 9 months ago
So, its greedy to not want to pay for your welfare. Got it.
• Val · 9 months ago
Ok, I have to comment on this one. I see a lot of super negative, hate the world people on here, and I do not believe this is very fair.

I am applying for the phone for a neighbor of mine. She is 68 years old, with no family (all passed on) and she lives on 500.00 a month in SS. I think it is wonderful that the government is allowing this program. For someone like her, it is perfect. I can not imagine what she would do if something happened to her without a phone. Only problem is that she has never used a cell phone, so I will have to show her how to.
And, Really people; "your" government tax dollars hahahaha. What a joke. How much of your money goes to the poor? How about you quit complaining about welfare programs, and start complaining about the billion dollar a day war in Iraq. God forbid a hungry child gets .12 of your hard earned tax dollars.
And, how many of you really "work"? If you call an office job sitting on your rear 8 hours a day doing a whole lot of nothing work, then you really have some messed up ideas. When you pansy girls get a real hard working job, then I will listen to your story.
And, the thing is your "hard earned" tax dollars are always going to be there, no matter what. If they cut welfare programs, then it will go to something else. Be happy that our own are being helped, because the government could sure throw it at some other countries poor.
The thing is that I have always busted my rear end, ever since I was 14 years old, and I already have one heck of a social security mound saved up and I am only 28. But, I give to the poor, I pull names from the stores every year for xmas, I give to the red pot, I help at food banks, and by god if someone wants to live off of the government then more power to them. It sure beats what I have to do.

Quit hating on people because you made your own choices.
• likwidshoe · 9 months ago
And, Really people; "your" government tax dollars hahahaha. What a joke. How much of your money goes to the poor?

Here's this: about seventy percent of our tax dollars goes to redistributionist programs.

How about you quit complaining about welfare programs, and start complaining about the billion dollar a day war in Iraq.

Here's a clue: the Iraq war is Constitutional. The "New Deal" and "Great Society" are not. Now, you may or may not agree with the Iraq War, but national defense is a function of our federal government.

In any regard, one does not have anything to do with the other. Bringing up the Iraq War is little more than a straw man.

God forbid a hungry child gets .12 of your hard earned tax dollars.

"IT'S FOR THE CHILDREN!" Haha. What a joke.

And, how many of you really "work"? If you call an office job sitting on your rear 8 hours a day doing a whole lot of nothing work, then you really have some messed up ideas. When you pansy girls get a real hard working job, then I will listen to your story.

You're greedy. You deny the time (the one thing that is truly limited for us all here in this life) that people put into work and then you belittle them for being forced to give a big part of that time to undeserving people.

And, the thing is your "hard earned" tax dollars are always going to be there, no matter what. If they cut welfare programs, then it will go to something else.

False.

The thing is that I have always busted my rear end, ever since I was 14 years old, and I already have one heck of a social security mound saved up and I am only 28.

No, you don't. It has already been spent.

Quit hating on people because you made your own choices.

Easy for a greedy government thief to say. "Quit hating the thieves."

Crystal - Also I sorta hate to go there but I feel like people who rant and rave about what their tax dollars are being spent on are simply jealous...

That's not in evidence. You're just justifying your own sense of entitlementness.

It's pretty disgusting Crystal and more than a bit transparent.

Sherry - Some countries take care of their less fortunate and ederly but lets face it we live in a country based on greed. And who are most of the comments from...the greedy.

What is it with people like you who steal other's wealth and precious time, and then have the nerve to call those people "greedy"?

Talk about guilty conscience Sherry! The naked projection is telling.

If the redistribution programs were scaled back, then we would have a surplus, pay less taxes and have more time for our own children as well as others. What the welfare - refuse to work crowd represents is a drag on our nation. They need to contribute, not just take.

Cell phones for welfare queens? Why, so they can coordinate drug deals and prostitution?

I saw it, lived near it and understand it. Corruption and immorality, corrupting our children.
• Chief RZ · 9 months ago
The greedy are communist proletariat "leaders" as well as gulfstream liberals. The facts are that liberals contribute much less of their income that conservatives.
• 2Hotel9 · 8 months ago
And another welfare whore heard from. Val, your "neighbor" can have a regular phone in her home for substantially less than a cellphone, and through individual companies she can have a cellphone for less than this welfare rip off. But no, you insist on stealing other people's money because you just want to steal other people's money.

Here is a hint. Get a copy of the Constitution. A real one, not the one you got when you donated to Barri's campaign, and see what it lists as legitimate expenditures by the Federal and State's governments.

I would just like to say, that Im a single mom of a 2 yr old, and I have recieved one of these cell phones. I work and pay taxes also, but after the costs of everyday life, I cannot afford a cell phone! My safelink phone stays in the locked glove box of my 16 yr old car in case I ever get stranded with my daughter or by myself. I'd rather do that then be stuck somewhere, and Im sure if you had a family member without a cell phone with an old car and a young child, you would want them to be safe as well and be able to call someone when theyre broken down on the expressway with cars flying by then at 80mph! Sorry I just get discouraged when I see posts like this bashing what society calls "poverty". I can see if Im not doing anything to help myself, and did drugs and lived in a shelter, due to drug abuse or alcohol. But I went to school and am I licensed professional, but due to the horrible economy my hours have been cut in half. and anyway, I highly doubt Im having leisurely conversations on my safelink phone. Its just enough minutes to possibly save your life!!!!!

I personally do not think that its a big deal because if they don't get the cell phone they can get a land line phone and pay like 13 dollars a month and everything else would be funded by the government or taxpayer anyway. Plus I don't think cellphones are luxury items anymore unless they have cameras, GPS, mp3, video, web, and bluetooth enabled but these days a regular phone with a hour talk time will get you nowhere, my kids have phones with at least 1500 minutes and 900 anytime minutes. I will be more offended if these poor people got the same phone with the same features with the same minutes or close to it as what I worked hard to pay for myself but what they are given it is truly an emergecy phone and I almost fell bad that they were even offered breadcrumbs while people who can afford a more luxury type phone and plan sit around and complain that about 3 cents of their taxes dollars go toward helping others get crap sandwiches compered to their stake lobster dinners.

What a joke, it would be cheaper to just shoot the poor! Some of these people get thousands of dollars per month. Reduced rent, free health care, food, shelter. Fuck, I work and bust my ass and can't get ahead.

Fuck the poor.
• hippyfairy · 1 month ago
Sounds like to me, that even though you work your a** off, that you are still poor..Or at least that is basically what you are saying.."I work and bust my ass and can't get ahead. " God loves everyone, poor and not, so why do any of you think its your right to judge..Maybe you need to take a closer look at the bible ..Its not good to judge, hate or be greedy..Some cant help their situation, and the ones who can , well, they try,, and it still happens..Not everyone had a silver spoon in their mouths, when they were born, Our mommy's and daddy's, didnt buy us a car at 16, we were lucky to get a party..Poor is just a word, but greed is not..This hate needs to stop. Our country is not going in a good direction, lets turn it around..PEACE

so what your saying is for a guy like me...who tore his knee apart and hasnt working in a year because of it...im not allowed to get a free phone to keep in touch with my doctors and crap...but its ok for illigal immagrants to get disability benefits? i was denied 3 times for disability even though i cant work for physical reasons....but non tax paying citzens can get it......im sure you shouldnt be crying over the tracphone donating a phone to me and the state giving me 84 minutes a month.

I think this is a good idea, I ordered one for my elderly mother who can not afford the high phone bills, and gets social security. It is for emergency purposes only, not to drive around and yack all day to friends. There is alot of seniors who can not afford bills and what not due, to limited income, and have cut back from high utilities due to meds and medical bills.
• amy · 8 months ago
i get what some of you are saying, yes it would be nice if the elderly and disabled could be helpped, but the truth is its not the elderly and disabled alone who are getting this assistance. a friend of mine has a god daughter (17 years old) who just gave birth to her 2nd child by a 2nd father and pretty much refuses to work. when her 1st baby was born she told the child's father not to go to work b/c she'd miss him. this drain on society recieved one of these cell phones at the hospital after giving birth to her 2nd child! this is wrong. as for you single parents, yes it must suck to have been abandoned by your spouse but i dont want to hear it how you couldnt make it with out welfare. my father was a high school drop out a single parent who got no child support no help and no welfare. we never went hungry, always had healthcare and our utilities were never cut off. that man worked two, sometimes three jobs so we could have everything we needed, without goverment assistance. if he can do it you can do it, so i dont want to hear it. we didnt need welfare to pay our phone bill neither do you. hard work and perserverence will always win the day.

OK! First off let me say that I am considered poor! I work and pay taxes the same as anyone else. I myself can not afford cable, a phone, or other as you call them luxuries. I have a safe link wireless I am provided with 68 minutes a month. I needed a phone I have kids that require doctor appointments be made! Think about what all of you are saying for a minute. Seriously, how long does 68 minutes last. This is not something the government is giving out so that people can just talk s they wish. This is something to help people like me that need to be able to make important calls! Now I am sure that there are people out there sitting at home with no job and just busting through their minutes, but for people like me who are doing everything they can to keep a roof over the heads of there children who do not get subsidized living because I pay 650.00 a month for my home really could use 20.00 worth of airtime to make sure that important things are taken care of! As far as the landline phone being 13.00. I barely make ends meet just off of my rent and lights. I pay my taxes and once I got my safelink wireless I starting putting applications for a 2nd job! It does not make my happy to know that the government has helped me, but it gives me hope that maybe I can get another job to help provide more for my children!

cell phones are the way we communicate now! the program is intended to help their participants get out of poverty by having access to employers and to lead a more efficient lifestyle! FEDERAL TAX PAYER DOLLARS ARE NOT THE SOURCE OF FUNDING FOR THE PROGRAM! it comes from an FCC fund called the Universal Service Fund. cell phone users pay into this fund through their phone bill, and the USF fuels these type of programs. also, buying more minutes is an option NOT AN OBLIGATION! it is actually intended as a cost control measure, if they want more minutes they can buy them. it is better than having a contract which they are paying for minutes in large blocks, and paying EXTRA.
• Jager · 1 month ago
It may not be paid for by our income tax but if it is paid for through money that we have to pay extra for our service, then that is still a type of tax.

It is not our responsibility to pay for people's cell phones and home mortgages; it is not our fault or our responsibility that people have to face adversity in their lives. Some of these people never should have been given a mortgage in the first place. Most of us doing what we are supposed to we are paying our mortgages and not living above our means Cell phones are not a necessity they are a luxury. I am sick and OBAMA redistributing wealth so he can buy votes for the next election. If you don't like your lot in life work harder and stop depending on the Government to fullfill your needs.

For those blaming Obama's administration, get a clue. Take a look at Tracphone, they pay 2 lobbyist firms several hundreds thousand dollars. These firms are dominated by well connected republicans such as people who served as aides to Cheney, to the guy that ran McCains 2000 elections etc, etc. This program was passed under a Republican administration, with a Republican congress. Just another case of Republicans screwing over the taxpayers to help their friends in big business.

Suck on that.
• another republican joke · 6 months ago
Another Republican screw the people over for big business plan. Tracphone has 2 lobbyist firms which it pays 100's of thousands too. Both firms are loaded with Republican ties. From people who served on Cheney's staff to people who ran McCain's first elections. These guys got this free handout for Tracphone from a republican administration during a republican congress. Check the dates of when the program was approved...

Cell phones are not a luxury anymore. They were a while ago when most people had land lines. In this shitty getting shittier econ, people who have lost their jobs and homes need a way to communicate in case of an emergency. There are people who apply for the phone who sit around all day getting fatter while waiting for whatever the government hands them for free. There are also people who have lost their jobs and homes and can't afford a cell phone anymore who are desperately looking for work and saving every penny they can to survive and not end up under living on a matress under a bridge. Everyone has their own story. There will always be people who abuse goverment handouts, and there will always be people who abuse people who abuse government handouts. I'd rather watch the government hand out life preservers to people who are drowning instead of standing there and doing nothing, even if some people are pretending to drown.
• 2Hotel9 · 5 months ago
Does HUD and DeptAgriculture send you guys a whole file of this smaltzy, selfserving crap? Or do they email them individually every few days?
• Jeff · 5 months ago
I love how people who are on the take always try to justify it. "Oh, how am I to make phone calls to the doctor?" or "Cell phones aren't a luxury anymore." My favorite was:

"So you are all complaining about $20.00 a month so a person can have a whopping 60 minutes of airtime a month--at any rate, that does allow you to use it for emergencies and call and get messages from prospective employers etc. IF you have been homeless or very broke and without a phone (I have), you understand exactly how necessary a phone is and how cut off and isolated you are without one."

Wow...Yeah, $20 a month x how many people? Really, the amount is irrelevant. You could tell me it's $2 a month and I'd still be against it! What right do you have to tell someone to "suck it up, you're paying for my cell phone."

OK, good, let's bring these arguments to the next logical conclusion -- where shall we draw the line for government handouts? What would you takers say is fair for the workers of this country to be forced to give you?

If I hear that America is greedy, again, I will go nuts. Please, I beg you, find a more charitable people than Americans. Greed does not factor into it. Our government is forcing us, at gun point, to throw our money at 'problems' that our federal government has no Constitutional authority to be involved with.

The way to look at this is, as was stated above: Money = time. You work hard for your money -- what you do is irrelevant. Whether you're 'sitting on your butt' for 8 hours or working a jackhammer, time is time. Most people with regular jobs put in 8 hours + commute. That is time spent away from your family. Think about it that way, the next time someone is telling you you're greedy for not wanting to give free cell phones to the 'poor'.

Also, another ridiculous statement I saw in this blog was that this isn't a taxpayer funded program. Please, can you think before you speak? A simple google search would have provided you with this FCC website page explaining the Universal Service Charge to you. Note that it says "Although not required to do so by the government, many carriers choose to pass their contribution costs on to their customers in the form of a line item, often called the "Federal Universal Service Fee" or "Universal Connectivity Fee"." Here's something that we all should know (I am sure many here do): Corporations do not pay taxes or fees -- they're lumped into the cost of doing business and passed on to the consumer. That was a cute line by the FCC, trying to say "look, it's not us -- it's the big bad phone company! They're passing it along to you, not us."

I am sorry for the long post...I just wonder where the Americans who would rather die than take a handout from the government are. It seems they've been replaced by the people who are willing to sell out their freedoms to suck on the government nipple.

I live in Canada, so this really doesn't apply to me, but I do see merit in this program. I've been kicked out of both my parents places because of their fiancee's, and so now I'm 19, finishing off high school next year. I will be on social assistance to finish high school, and will barely be able to afford food and rent, let alone ANY kind of phone. There is no program like that here in Canada, so I'll have to live without, but all I'll have for communication is the internet that comes with my rent. Anyway, this program is a good thing, but perhaps they should be more strict on who they give it to.

I have been researching free phone service for my ailing mother - who will be returning home after a rather nasty fall. She wants to return home, where she lives alone. I was looking for a little piece of mind regarding her safety and she wants to remain independent. The Safe Link program is an excellent option for her and for me since I am a graduate student with two children to support and she lives on a very small fixed income. For the life of me, I couldn't remember the name of the company that was offering this free service. I would have had considerable difficulty locating the name of this "government subsidized" program if not for your blog. Thank you for your help. I will be applying on my mother's behalf for the program. https://www.safelinkwireless.com/EnrollmentPubl...

Owning a cell phone is a luxury not a necesity. The only valid argument for justifying the "free cell phone" program is to offer communication in the event of an emergency. All cell phones are capable of dialing 911 without services....send the "not so fortunate" a used cell phone and they can carry it around and call 911 if they have an emergency! The alternative, GET A JOB! Or GET A BETTER JOB...what did we do 25 yrs ago when cell phones were not as common??
• corona · 4 months ago
..........afterthough, I see some comments above from those that have been able to get a free phone. I am sure you are sitting at home on your desktop and/or laptop spending $40.00 a month on the internet service to upload your comments...maybe "you" should re-evaluate your priorities!

I don't know anything about this program, so I am not going to comment on the program itself, as I would want to do some more research before speaking out, but I did just want to comment on a few comments to the thread:
i am a proud white woman who dont like feeling poor i do not live above my means and my childreen are always being put down because of the trailor we call home
Your children should never be ashamed of where they live. Living in a trailer doesn't make you less of a person. My grandfather grew up in abject poverty in the hollers of West Virgina. He went on to not allow that to hold him down. My grandfather was never wealthy or middle class, but he worked 6 days a week most of his life to provide for his family, and he always held his head up and was proud of the lessons learned while growing up. Tell your children to hold their heads up and focus on their education, and someday they will be able to build on your/their hardships and provide help to others who are now in the situation they were in. b) What exactly does the fact that you are white have to do with your post? Nobody wants to be poor, or live in the rest of the world outside of North America and Western Europe, where the majority of the populations do, in actuality, live in poverty...poverty where poor is the middle class. Poverty doesn't mean you cannot afford a cellphone, poverty means you watch your children starve to death on the side of the road as you try and walk the 100 miles to the nearest medical aid tent. that, is poverty. Poverty is not the lack of having a cellphone, no matter how you get it, or the the internet, or tv, with our without cable, or windows in their house, or a house for that matter. I lived in Turkey for 2 years. There is incredible wealth in some areas of Turkey and there is also incredible, INCREDIBLE poverty, and there are no safety nets, so poor is relative depending on where you are situated when you are poor.

If his boss wasn't "sitting on his a**" as you so eloquently put it, my husband would not have a job...we need rich "a** sitters" to provide jobs...those in my same income bracket couldn't afford to hire one employee, let alone the 25 my husband's boss employs.

Continued post(two posts due to character limit)

I actually don't fall consistently on a hard line one way or the other on social safety net programs. I am very conservative on some, and very lenient on others when it comes to what I think is right.

This is one of those hard times. Unless you are young, you grew up without cellphones. I worked on a military base, 15 miles away from my home when I was 16. It was a 15 min drive on an often deserted road with NOTHING between the base and the outskirts of my town, and I had no cellphone. Do you think parents then worried any less about their children back then? We don't get cell service for more than 8 or 9 miles of our deserted stretch of road into town, but , if my children were to break down, having a cellphone without cell service reception is no different than not having one, so you CAN live w/o your children having a cellphone. How are you able to be on the internet? Unless you are utilizing the library, you are able to afford internet, so you are not in the position of TRULYgoing hungry,as much of the developing world is. I watched a program on India a few months ago. The majority of families living in the slums of Mumbai, no running water, no internet, no lights, no food, no windows or doors, no toilet, etc, have cellphones. They pay for them themselves. Surely you are not putting yourself in a category that makes you poorer than those living in a Mumbai slum...
but lests see what happens when a flood or a tornado hits your bitch ass farms and cornfields and your ass is left with nothing but your life are you going to turn down welfare help or is that below you
totally illogical argument. A cellphone is in NO WAY comparable with suffering from a natural disaster. I have zero problem with federal funding for disaster relief.
not afford cable, a phone, or other as you call them luxuries
Are you seriously saying that cable is not a luxury??

Not thinking a free cellphone is a good idea does not mean you want babies starving in the street...you can't eat a cellphone, so wouldn't you think the govt should increase food stamps by that amount each month if the concern is supporting a person in a time of need? I notice no "my children are hungry and I would rather have extra food in the cupboard", but total outrage over questioning the free cellphone policy
• Tina · 4 months ago
These cell phones are not for people to call and gab to their friends. They are meant for emergency use only. That is why you only get a certain amount of minutes per month. The government used to do the same thing for landlines, but don't offer that program anymore. Some people are simply too poor to afford a phone and if you have small children then this is not a luxery but piece of mind.

So, you *are* equating yourself as poorer than those living in the slums of Mumbai, who buy cellphones AND minutes. How are you able to be on the internet? Unless you are using the public library or another free source, then you have the money to pay for the internet. Did you even read that? You think that poor isn't able to not afford a cellphone. Live overseas for a while and see if you still say that. I am not kidding about what true poverty is. I lived where there is true poverty and they find us to be selfish, as we don't "get it" The absolute poorest, poverty stricken family in *this* country is middle class or RICH in the developing world. I hope to God you are NEVER in the position where you have to sit on the side of the road and watch your child, who's belly is bloated from starvation, die, covered in flies, because their parents couldn't walk all those miles to the closest aid tent.
These cell phones are not for people to call and gab to their friends. They are meant for emergency use only. That is why you only get a certain amount of minutes per month. They don't monitor the minutes to see if you are only using them for emergencies. You could be ordering a pizza if that is what you want to use it for. I had small children and had NO cellphone, and not 20 years ago, but 10 years ago. I had younger children FIVE years ago and didn't have a cellphone. I couldn't afford one. My husband had one becuase he was required to have one for recalls to the base when he was the "on call" person. The military provided it, so even when he was gone for MONTHS at a time, I still didn't have a cellphone. The military providing a cellphone for recalls to the base is different than this plan.

You want to talk to me about the need for food stamps to afford nutritious food for your children, then let's talk about that, but if you are on the internet to tell me you are too poor to afford a phone(again, unless you are at the library or another place where it is free) then explain to me how you justify a free phone.

Those of you swearing at people who don't agree with you makes you sound unintelligent, and I am sure you are not, as intelligence is not dependent on wealth, so maybe what you need is a dollar store thesaurus to look up the big boy and girl words and act like grown ups when you disagree. Argue your point like Tina above did, but act like an adult, as she did, when you do it.

No service support. Tax supported "free" phone came to one client of mine (a homeless, disabled veteran) after 4 months of trying -not working, and when it was reported, a new phone never arrived, even after being given tracking numbers, etc. Customer gave up. A second client never got his phone, either, and also gave up. Calls, emails, etc to the company numbers went unanswered and even pleas to Attorney Generals office, and local and federal representatives went unanswered. A TOTAL TAXPAYER RIPOFF!!!!!

I can certainly understand that the cell phone program for the poor is really a weird idea. However I was fired from an auto parts store just because Ohio is a hire and fire at will state. It's a shame that we have laws like that. Sure a cell phone is nice i used to be able to afford one. 68 minutes per month is good for an emergency. The real problem is that the U.S.A is in real trouble this time. It's no joke I am a hard working 49 year old man. Now being denied unemployment because of the green clover logo auto parts store over bought out other stores and demanding employees to endure anything that that company says is fair.
At any rate there will be higher unemployment no job is safe. I get $200.00 a month for food only toilet paper not (LOL) no cash and i do have to work @ places to cover that $ 200.00 that I'm getting on an Ohio card So I'm very thankful for that I hope you'll all go to the auto parts stores that begin with the letter A..The other auto parts store that will be in your area I hope you'll understand that the people behind the counter are worn out and it's not you causing that it's management it's a struggle working for a company like that and many times being denied a lunch break Yeah so what it's against the law so try to afford an attorney. So what I'm saying "Please try not to judge the poor I just became poor but not homeless yet! I'm not talking about 3rd generation welfare either. We are all going to have to rely on eachother so get used to it. So what a free cell phone big deal!

For the person who made the comment that people who can afford a cell phone are the only ones who need to have one and that poor people are not motivated to do anything, and "POOR" people can't even work towards getting and paying for our own phones.
Let me just say, everyone in their life falls upon hard times here and there and nobody wants to be "POOR". But I am a person who needed this phone because my childrens father up and left because he didn't want the responsiblities of taking care of them anymore after 8 years, Friend of the Court is a joke when it comes to getting these fathers to be accountable. I have a job taking care of low income children in my daycare and the majority of them have no dads in the home. Not every person that needs this service is a lazy, no good, want to be degraded be people like you, citizens. Dont put down the people who are having hard times, you never know when your going to have to look up to the people you once looked down on. You could lose your job today, get hit by a car and live the rest of your life in a wheel chair, your children God forbid could be hurt to where you have to stay home and care for them, or your man may leave you. Would you take the low income services available to you then? Everyone at the top can fall, the difference between the top people and the bottom people is usually when the top people fall they fall hard and cant get back up. We at the bottom tend to keep getting up for the sake of always being put down by people like you. Yes, there may be people abusing the system, I'm sure there are. But you should never assume anything when it comes to someone elses life. You have no idea why they are in the situation their in.

How do you figure they pay less taxes? As for paying for college, I paid my own way and so did my wife, we are still paying for the student loans. We pay our own bills. When you finish school and start making money are you going to be happy about paying alot of it to the government so they can redistribute it? If you can't afford it, you don't need it.
Rich people pay less taxes and could afford the good stuff while the poor struggle.
The "rich" who are they?

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/bus...
When political talk turns to tax "fairness," none of the candidates mentions where a high income begins. So I thought you might want to know. You were in the top 25 percent of taxpayers in 2005 if your taxable income exceeded $61,055

In 2000, the top 25 percent of all taxpaying filers paid a whopping 83.6 percent of all income taxes. By 2005, they paid 85.6 percent of all taxes. So in spite of tax rate cuts for the well-off, the share of taxes paid by the well-off has risen.
So the "rich", those making more than 61,000 pay 85.6% of all taxes.

What do those numbers mean?
This is not a minor number. In 2005, 134 million American households filed tax returns. Only 90 million of them paid any taxes. While the number of households filing returns rose by 5 million, the number of households actually paying income taxes fell by 6 million. Basically, 11 million lower-income households don't have to pay income taxes that would have had to pay taxes before the Bush tax cuts.
44 million pay no income tax at all. Some of this number actually get money in the form of the Earned Income Tax credit so they are a net drain.

22.5 million families pay 85.6% of the taxes.

67.5 million families pay the remaining 14.4% of taxes.

Tell me again how the "rich" ar
e the cheapest of the bunch and are ungrateful son of a bitches. You get TOO much privilege and the poor gets stuck with the shit.
And one of you guys said your dad was a high school drop out..(who gives a f***). That was decades ago,I bet that was back when $30 could get you a house wasnt it? And secondly, this phone isn't a permanent fixture, its put in place for immediate aid. There is this wonderful thing called reading, and if you go on the website and read about how the programs work you wouldn't be making yourselves look like ignorant fools. It's like welfare, you only get it based on your---- there is a government review every so often to see whether or not that person still qualifies. If not, they stop adding minutes and you can keep the phone along with the minutes given. Every door busted off its frame, all windows broken, both toilets busted, bathtubs busted, refrigerator stolen, furnace stripped, wiring and copper pipes ripped out. And the people were still living in it. Had to be forcibly removed by the Sheriffs Dept.

And the bestest part?!?! Now the property owner is having to fight in court against HUD because she does not want to continue renting through them.

Hey, if i may, I would like to chime in. Im a 19 year old college student going to school purely on scholarship. The scholarship i have goes straight to my tuition, room, and board. Now, the scholarship I have requires me to perform research for professors in a workstudy program, which in turn, pays my necessary bills, and maybe a little cash which goes straight towards essentials such as toothpaste and toilet paper. I wish I had a phone, but I dont. I applied for this phone because I am hoping that I can find something to use to keep in contact with my parents and in case of emergencies. I am not mooching off society, because one day, it will be my turn to give back. We all live in a society, why not show some unity guys?

What you need is a dictionary and a thesaurus, which you can get for a dollar a piece at the dollar store.

I have no doubt that employers will be knocking down your door as eloquent as you are. How one speaks to others is usually quite indicative of their character.

A little career advice for you. Employers want you to use big boy and girl words, not childish swear words. They would prefer you actually spell out words vs text messaging "speak".
GEE, PUBLIC EDUCATION HAS REALLY FAILED SOME OF YOU
Yes, it has apparently failed you "dang". Those that live in poor grammar houses shouldn't throw educational insult stones.

Most of us use slang or conversational speech in one form or another, but we are not usually hurling education, or lack of, insults at people while we are using it.
AND SECONDLY IF YOU PEOPLE ARE NOT VOLUNTEERING YOUR TIME AND EFFORT TO HELP YOUR FELLOW NEIGHBOR IN A TIME OF NEED THEN YOU'RE JUST AS MUCH OF A DRAIN ON SOCIETY AS YOU'RE CLAIMING THE POOR ARE.
I do, do you? I am not rich. My husband is a disabled veteran who works a blue collar job. We donate a percentage of his salary every year to several charities, even when times have been financially tight. We also volunteer. Again, do you??? If you do not, then feel free to come lecture me AFTER you have started both physically and financially donating your time on a regular, not sporadic, basis.

I didn't realize that my husband owed you a cellphone. I thought his almost 21 years of service so you can come complain was payment enough..silly me.

btw, how are you able to come here and complain about how cruel we all are? Unless you are in a place where you have FREE access(free to you) to the internet, it is interesting that you can afford the internet to come and tell me how you cannot afford a cellphone

Damn, some of you people are a little extreme. Not everyone who gets any type of goverment assistance should be rounded up and shot. I just heard of this program today after recently getting food stamps and thought it may be useful, don't know if I'll get it or not. I thought I'd look it up and see what it was all about and came across this site, wow.

I'm almost 26 and this is only my 2nd time trying to get some help, I'm happy that I got my $200 worth of food money so we won't have to eat crap all month. I've been going through this shit since I was 14, when the goverment decided I wasn't disabled anymore and took away my check. I was born disabled and my mom was disabled about 20 years ago, had it not been for welfare and housing programs we would have been screwed.

BUT, big but. I've also seen fraud first hand. Go to your local Job & Family Services or HUD office and just look in the waiting room and parking lot, you will see. People (mainly black, it's easier for them to get it because the government thinks they need help more) are in these places already with expensive cell phones and nice clothes. Last time I went to HUD I saw 2 BMW's and a newer model Cadillac in the visitor parking lot. That, is bullshit. I can't afford even basic transportation, any kind of extra things and haven't gotten any new clothes in months.

People like that are the ones who ruin government assistance. There's nothing wrong with it, nothing wrong with needing some help. There is something wrong with getting help when you clearly don't need it and I just don't see why they can't take 1 look at these people and cut them off. Why not? Because some bitch has 5 kids under 3 by several men? Nobody told her to have them, birth control isn't that hard and you can usually get free condoms from most doctor's offices.

I'm sure there will be many people doing this just so they can have yet another cell phone that they don't really need, but I can see it being useful to some. You people also use the phrase "tax dollars" way too much. I doubt that much of your hard earned money will go to this program. Where would you rather have it? Schools? Schools won't work until we fix the parents. I'd love to go deeper into this but I don't know how much more I can type in this, I might post a longer response on my site later. (Which was given to me by a friend who wasn't using it, in case you're wondering).

Oh, and don't give me the lame "Another welfare whore toddles through..." line, it isn't funny. Try harder.

What if tomorrow you woke up and found out that your job is no longer needed, sent overseas, or all your years spent in college trying to perfect your trade, was worth nothing. What in the fuck would you do then. If you could not get back into the field and had to take a less then desirable job; where you barely made enough to cover the basic needs of life. What the fuck would you do then. Apply for the same government handout. I am so tired of ignorant people. By the way I do have onre of these phones and I use it basically for my grandson who is 5 months old and has to go to another county to have his kidneys checked on monthly. And yes, I at one point had a contracted phone that I knew that I could no longer afford due to his on going medical needs. I work and pay taxes just like the rest of you assholes, and struggle every month just to pay the rent, buy my food with cash and pay for my medical coverage through my job. The problem here is that some people need a helping hand and in the case of Tonia, a cell phones is a real medical necessity and if she cannot genuinely afford one, we should get it for her - period. So, it is a lack of compassion when some people here lump everyone in together and call them nasty names.

If responsible, caring, intelligent people working for the various social welfare programs were able to separate the chaff from the wheat when people apply for help from various these programs, we could acomplish two things. (a) Cut the costs of these program dramatically, huge cuts, by getting rid of those that are just too damn lazy and irresponsible. We never will though, because poor people vote for candidates that promise them more free money and services and so for them to keep getting reelected, our political friends will keep promising more and make sure no one gets mad because they are ever turned down. (b) Those really in need would get a lot more help with no complaints from taxpayers. Americans, even us evil conservatives love to help those in real need to get real needs met and that generously. But, we balk at the misuse and abuse of the welfare state to keep Democrat candidates in office.

So, let us keep in mind that there are real people with serious needs, and when we call people names, make sure it is directed at those that don't have real needs.
or someone is robbing you while youre asleep or held at gun point

How is the "homless" guy going to see the robber, robbing me while I'm asleep unless he is the robber? The "homless" are often known to be altruistic souls that report all crime. Its like a neighborhood watch!
• ANNOYED · 1 month ago
YEAH CUZ YOU ARE HOMELESS SO YOU KNOW WHAT HOMELESS PEOPLE DO AND HOW THEY THINK RIGHT. WOW SUCH INTELLIGENT PEOPLE HERE.

I can see them and observe them Annoying. Most are drunks, druggies and lay abouts. Go be jerk elsewhere.
• ANNOYED · 1 month ago
GO BE A JERK ELSEWHERE? YOU GUYS ARE THE DAMN JERKS. BASHING ON LESS FORTUNATE PEOPLE ON HERE. AS IF SOMETIME IN YOUR LIFE YOU HAVENT NEEDED HELP, BORROWED MONEY, OR WAS GIVEN SOMETHING FOR FREE. GET OVER YOUR MATERIALISTIC SELF. ALABAMA IS FULL OF POOR REDNECKS, RIGHT? (THATS WHAT I HAVE OBSERVED, SO THAT MUST MAKE YOU ONE) SO HOW MANY PHONES DO YOU HAVE. YOU CAN SEE AND OBSERVE THEM??....SO I GUESS THAT MEANS YOU KNOW THEM. MAYBE YOU SHOULD SEE AND OBSERVE THE MIRROR.
• Greg in Alabama · 1 month ago
Bashing on the less fortunate? How is giving someone a free cell phone going to help them? Its a total waste of money. You can get a land line for next to nothing if you want a phone for emergencies. I've never accepted any form of government money for welfare.

Ah the tolerant lefty. Calling Alabamians rednecks really makes your point. Are you twelve, Annoying? I have three phones. One land land, one for my wife and my own. I pay for all of them.

I see homeless people all the time Annoying. Do you not? You seem to be their champion. I bet you're out there helping them in the shelters and working to make their life better? Ha!

Get a clue kid, stop with the cap locks. All you do is make yourself look even more foolish. (If that's possible)

I'm from Alabama, I'm from Alabama, I'm from Alabama! YEE HAW!

I'm a redneck. I work hard in the fields to grow food for my family and for others. As I do this it sunburns my neck. Somehow for Annoying is an insult. He calls me a redneck because I work hard to provide for my family!

Good work Annoying!

Make fun of the South some more to prove what an outstanding tolerant liberal you are! Hypocrite thy name is liberal.
• badlands4 · 1 month ago
Judging by Greg's posts and your posts, what is obvious is that Greg's region of the country has much better access to dictionaries and thesauruses than your region of the country does.

Who is the redneck exactly?
• 2Hotel9 · 2 months ago
I saw that and laughed my ass off. So, its point is that criminals need free cellphones so they can turn themselves in for committing all those crimes. What a lying sack of shit.
• Steve · 2 months ago
First of all, it looks like this site needs a better captcha. You shouldn't be getting this much SPAM.

Secondly, the phones are mailed out so I don't think too many of these saintly homeless would be able to find an address to use to get their handout phone. There's a limit of one per address and I would imagine that the local bus stop has already been used by now. That means that the next time I get jumped in a dark alley - which is, by the way, where I try to spend all of my available time - I'm going to have to toss my phone to the homeless guy right off so he can help me out...

Oh and can't we give a rest to all of the references to the ubiquitous lay-off victims or the "oops, I fell off of the roof and can't work anymore" people? They're rhetorical citations at best and these demographics simply aren't characteristic of the majority of welfare users. Just because someone is abusing the disability program, for instance, does not mean they're *actually* disabled.

Entitlements/public assistance is all such B.S.

Last but not least, to "tonia" - the dope who posted this:
"What if tomorrow you woke up and found out that your job is no longer needed, sent overseas, or all your years spent in college trying to perfect your trade, was worth nothing. What in the fuck would you do then. If you could not get back into the field and had to take a less then desirable job; where you barely made enough to cover the basic needs of life. What the fuck would you do then. Apply for the same government handout."
What would I do? I'd take the shit job, probably a second job as well, and work my ass off. That's where you and I differ. I would mop up public toilets all day long and flip burgers at night to provide for the basic needs of my family. You would take the easy road and let even part of the pay of the poor bastard working the lousy job (you know, the one working the job that you think you're too good for) go to support your lifestyle. After all of that, you still can't see how you are a sponge? You are beyond hope.
• Doris · 2 months ago
I am so sorry that your tax money has to pay for my cell phone now that I am 80 years old, living on social security, and medical bills up the wazzooo. Remember, when I was working, my tax dollars paid for your education. I was taught that we much all look out for each other. There are people that are not poor by choice.
• Name · 1 month ago
It seems that everyone that gets one of these phones has worked their ass off to help build this country but has barely been paid minimum wage. What have you done to try to better your self? Did you pick a career that has no future? Everything is based on choices. I keep reading the case of the “poor single mother” or the lowly “college student”. Life is NOT fair! I’m sorry to be the one to break it to you but no one owes you anything. There are many single mothers and fathers out there who are busting their rear end every day and they are paying their own way. If you can’t afford kids there are plenty of ways you can get free birth control. Don’t use your kids as a ticket to sit on your rear and whine about not being given enough. You were adult enough to have them, now be an adult and take care of your responsibilities.
Just 15 years ago most of us survived without a cell phone. The fact that you are posting here means either you have a computer and Internet access at home or are smart enough to know you can go to a public library and get on the Internet for free. My guess is you have Internet access at home because if you went to the library it was probably to get a book to read and are already trying to better your self. If you can afford a computer and Internet access, you can afford a home phone. It’s probably better you don’t have a cell phone to interfere with your driving to those all important doctors appointments.
As for all the college students who need a free phone. Quit talking and get back to studying, if you would study & stop texting in class you might learn something. If you are truly paying for your own school, you would be able to afford a phone if you truly needed one. If you are not paying for your own school, then you are either already sucking off society or have a job that is paying for school so with that job you can afford a phone.
As for the homeless bum using the phone to call 911 to protect me. If it comes to that, then it means that the government has already taken away all my constitutional privileges of defending myself and socialism is here.
If you don’t agree with me on this, it’s ok. That is the beauty of a free society. We have this avenue to sound off and voice our opinions. When we have completed the move to socialism, we will no longer have the right to our opinions!

I didn't realize how narrow minded and ridiculous people are until I got on here. So I agree that there are people who use welfare, and government benefits to their advantage. I agree that they sit on their butts and do nothing while tax dollars pay for that. I agree that there are people out there that need to invest in birth control. I see it everyday. It annoys me yes. But honestly what can you do about it? Nothing. But as for judging everyone who is on welfare as being those bum people, that is childish. I mean first who are you to judge anyone. Before you do that take a look in the mirror and deal with your own flaws before you judge mine or his or hers. I'm a single mother, I'm not pulling that "card" out as some of you say but it is true. I didn't make the choice to be a single mother, but what can I do when my son's father decides that he just doesn't want to be a father anymore? There are some situations that you don't have control over. I have worked since it has been legal for me to work. So just as much as my "tax dollars" went into these programs as yours. I take care of my son, I go to school full time, and I work full time. I still need some help. You want to say that you bust your rear end, I probably bust my butt just as much if not harder then you. So what if I get a little help while I got through school? You're going judge me negatively for that? I'm not poor, and I am not even getting one of these little phones that are causing all of this negativity. It just irks me when I get on and read this bs. I'm sorry that my mommy and daddy didn't pay for me to go through school, and that I didn't get fed with the silver spoon my entire life. To those of you who did, congratulations! But when it comes down to it, I bet that I appreciate everything a lot more then you. And my life won't be this fake material bs. So enjoy sitting on your high horses jerks, but I guarantee that one day you will get knocked down, and when you do I guess I will see ya at the welfare office =)
• Greg in Alabama · 1 month ago
A the "narrow minded" plow! What's open minded about demanding a free phone?
• ANNOYED · 1 month ago
AND PS, YOU DONT HAVE TO DEMAND IT.......THEY SEND IT TO YOUR QUIT EASILY. THANK YOU.
• Greg in Alabama · 1 month ago
Asking for it in the first place and calling us names for not wanting to give away free phones is the very definition of demanding.

By the way, if you will look about 1/8th inch from the letter A on you keyboard you'll find the caps lock key. If you will turn off your caps locks you won't look like a raving loon. Protip!
• ANNOYED · 1 month ago
YEAH BUT I PREFER CAP LOCK THANK YOU. AND HONESTLY, I DIDNT DEMAND OR ASK FOR ANYTHING, THE APPLICATION CAME IN THE MAIL WITH MY DISABILITY CHECK. SO THEREFORE THE STATE ASKED ME IF I WANTED IT. AGAIN, NO YOUR FACTS BEFORE YOU RUN YOUR MOUTH. AND DID CALLING YOU A REDNECK HURT YOUR LITTLE FEELINGS. WELL YOU KNOW WHAT....TAKE A LOOK AT SOME OF THE THINGS YOU'VE SAID ABOUT PEOPLE, LESS FORTUNATE THAT YOU. JUST BECAUSE THEY ARENT ON YOUR PEDESTAL DOESNT MEAN THEY ARENT HUMAN.
• Rob · 1 month ago
I thinks its pathetic how the government looks to sign people up for programs like this.

By the way, you can clearly afford your own computer and internet. Why do we have to pay for your phone for you?
• ANNOYED · 1 month ago
ACTUALLY.....MY INTERNET, HOME PHONE AND CABLE IS FREE. THANKS FOR ASKING. MY HUSBAND WORKS FOR THE CABLE COMPANY. SO ANOTHER FREE LUXURY I GET IN LIFE. AND I GET ABOUT 500 CHANNELS. SO, THERE IS SOMETHING ELSE YOU CAN BE MAD AT. OH, PLUS I JUST GOT A FREE BRAND SPANKING NEW DESKTOP COMPUTER FROM HP. FOR BEING AN OUTSTANDING CITIZEN SERVING MY COMMUNITY THOUGH IM DISABLED. WOW!!! IMAGINE THAT. GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO DO GOOD FOR OTHERS, RATHER THAN SIT AROUND AND BITCH ABOUT PAYING FOR SOMEONE LESS FORTUNATE THAN THEM TO HAVE A FREE 19 DOLLAR PHONE..

SO I WORK FOR FREE....BASICALLY, I PAY FOR MY FREE PHONE DEAR.
• Greg in Alabama · 1 month ago
So with all of these "free benefits" how can you not afford a phone? Your husband has a job and you get free cable service, a hundred dollar value where I live, so you can afford it. My wife's phone costs me a grand total of 30.00.

You work for free so somehow this pays for your phone? Here's an idea, if you can work for free, you can work for pay Annoying. GET A JOB.
• ANNOYED · 1 month ago
WORK FOR THE FREE, HOW DO I DO THAT??? HMMMMMM. ITS CALLED VOLUNTEER WORK? EVER HEARD OF IT?? ARE YOU REALLY THAT STUPID, THE MORE YOU TYPE THE MORE STUPID YOU GET. I HAVE A JOB...AND I BET I WORK HUNDREDS OF HOURS MORE THAN YOU DO, AND I DO IT FOR FREE. HELPING THE HOMELESS, HELPING BATTERED WOMEN, HELPING ABUSED CHILDREN. SO IN TURN I THINK I PAYED FOR MY FREE PHONE. I CANT HAVE A 9 TO 5 JOB, BECAUSE SEE WHEN YOU VOLUNTEER, YOU DO IT ON YOUR TIME, AND WHEN IM REALLY SICK, OR MY DISABILITY HAS IT TO WHERE IM INCAPABLE OF LEAVING THE BED FOR A WEEK, I DONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT GETTING FIRED. NOT EVERYONE WAS MADE PERFECT LIKE YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. AND YOUR REBUTTALS ARE QUITE LAME, YOU SOUND LIKE A BULLY TRYING TO GET THE LAST WORD AND SOUND LIKE YOU'RE SOME BAD ASS, WHEN REALLY YOU'RE NOT. OH, GOTTA GO, MY FREE PHONE IS RINGING!
• Greg in Alabama · 1 month ago
Yes, volunteer work is working for free, hence the use of the words volunteer and work. Yes I've heard of it. If you can work for free you're not really disabled. Heck, just a few lines down you change your tune to say you do have a phone and give the free phone to your kid. Here's a thought. Let her use your phone.

You pay for your phone? I pay for your phone. You are nothing but a phony freeloader. I doubt you volunteer for anything but lining up to get more free handouts.
• badlands4 · 1 month ago
The more HE types the stupider he gets??? He sounds like a bully? Who is screeching like a banshee in all caps?

What a Susy Sunshine you must be when you volunteer.
• MRS. ANNOYED · 1 month ago
OH NOOOO, ANOTHER PERSON BOTHERED BY THE ALL CAPS. FREE PHONES.... FREE SCHOOLING. FREE THIS FREE THAT. GOODNESS SAKES. THE CAPS IS A REAL KILLER HUH. YOU PEOPLE ARE SO EASILY ANGERED. ID HATE TO SEE YOU ALL AT A PARTY TOGETHER. BE A BUNCH OF ANGRY CRY BABY BULLIES RANTING AND RAVING CUZ YOU DIDNT GET A FREE DRINK.
• badlands4 · 1 month ago
Not bothered at all. Don't usually get engaged with this tit for tat, but you have made it quite(not quit) fun.

In fact, I will join you in the all caps, so you won't feel alone.

I DON'T DRINK. YOU HOWEVER SOUND LIKE YOU HAVE BEEN AT THE PARTY SUCKING UP THE FREE DRINKS FOR FAR TOO LONG. DON'T ATTEMPT TO DRINK AND DRIVE. USE YOUR CELLPHONE AND CALL A CAB.
• MRS. ANNOYED · 1 month ago
OR WAS THE THE SPELL CHECK AGAIN, TO FEEL SPECIAL...TO FEEL LIKE THE BIGGER PERSON. GOOD FOR YOU. PAT YOURSELF ON THE BACK FOR THAT ONE, YOU DID SUCH A GOOD JOB. AND UM, NO I DONT DRINK, I DONT DO DRUGS, NOR DO I SMOKE. SO TRY AGAIN ON YOUR LAME COMEBACK PLEASE. IMPRESS ME NEXT TIME. OH, AND I USUALLY DONT DRIVE, BECAUSE OF MY CONDITION.
• Greg in Alabama · 1 month ago
Are you really so pitiful that you can't afford $19.00? Yet you have the gall to call hardworking people rednecks!
• ANNOYED · 1 month ago
OHHH THE REDNECK LINE AGAIN....WOW THATS GETTING OLD. I KNOW YOU READ MY EXPLANATION ON WHY YOU WERE CALLED A REDNECK. IT WAS A "LABEL".. DID YOU LIKE THE "LABEL" NO YOU DIDNT. SO YOU NEED TO STOP LABELING OTHERS...SINGLE MOTHERS AS WHORES, HOMELESS PEOPLE AS DRUG ADDICTS, AND SO ON. YOU ARE PRETTY DENSE, I CAN SEE.
• MRS. ANNOYED · 1 month ago
AND ANOTHER THING. I DO HAVE MY OWN CELL PHONE. THE FREE ONE I GOT, I GAVE TO MY DAUGHTER TO PUT IN HER BACK PACK TO CARRY IF THERE WAS EVERY ANY EMERGENCY THAT SHE NEEDED TO CALL HOME FOR. WHICH HAS HAPPENED TWICE NOW. THE SCHOOL DISMISSED EARLY, WITHOUT EVEN CALLING HOME, AND SHE HAD TO USE HER PHONE FROM THE BUS STOP TO LET ME KNOW SHE WAS THERE, SINCE THE SCHOOL NEVER INFORMED ANYONE IT WAS GETTING OUT. SO WHO SHOULD I BE MAD AT? THE SCHOOLS? BECAUSE THEY DROPPED A 9 AND 4 YEAR OLD OFF ON A STREET CORNER BY THEMSELVES ON ONE OF THE BUSIEST STREETS IN THE AREA? I COULD. BUT NO, LUCKILY SHE HAD THE PHONE TO CALL ME, AND WE WENT AND GOT THEM.
• Greg in Alabama · 1 month ago
Can you, a ranting buffoon on the internet hurt my feelings? No, I don't know and do not care to know a person that pretends to be a tolerant person and then attacks a whole state full of people. Listen, I have no idea why you can't afford a cell phone, computer or internet access. I also have no idea why you expect me to pay for it because you are "less fortunate". You seem to have a lot of time to rant on the computer. Get a job and pay for it yourself.

I have a hard time accepting advice about people's humanity from a person that labels an entire state as "rednecks" bigot. If you have a problem with me fine, I really don't care. When you label an entire state, you are just as bigoted and as much of a jerk as the worst KKK member out there. Have fun in your robes at the next meeting Annoying.
• ANNOYED · 1 month ago
I CALLED YOU A REDNECK TO "LABEL" YOU. LIKE YOU LABEL OTHERS. BUT I GUESS THAT WENT OVER YOUR HEAD, LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE DOES.
• Greg in Alabama · 1 month ago
Ha! You called me a redneck to label me, OK. So you called me someone that works for a living. I can see how that is an insult to a freeloader.
• badlands4 · 1 month ago
That is know not no dear.......you are quite(not quit) welcome.

Maybe you could treat others like humans? You seem to demand what you do not offer. You make wild assumptions about people, insult where they live and then you have the nerve to "poor me, I'm a human too"?

Try acting like it. Acting like a grown up would be nice as well, but acting like a human is good enough for now.
• badlands4 · 1 month ago

#1 Veterans can have anything they want in my book! I will help pay! #2 Life, Liberty, and the persuit of Happiness is in the "Preamble" not the "Constitution". The Preamble is a introduction not the legal part.

I AGREE 100%. EXCEPT ITS OUT VETS WHO ARE NOW HOMELESS, AND ON WELFARE, BECAUSE AFTER THEIR SERVICES, OUR NATION JUST DUMPED THEM ON THEIR ASSES, AND NOW THEY STAND IN LINE EVERYDAY AT THE SOUP KITCHEN. AND IN REALITY THATS WHO IS REALLY BEING BASHED HERE. LUCKILY NOW, THEY JUST BUILT NEW TOWN HOMES FULLY FURNISHED FOR HOMELSS VETS. AND THE PLACE IS GORGEOUS. IM SURE THAT WILL BE ANOTHER RANT ON ANOTHER BLOG. "VETS GET FREE FURNISHED HOUSING, WTF!"""

My husband is a disabled veteran.

Most don't complain about services given to vets, particularly disabled vets, because they served and sacrificed so people can have the freedom to go around demanding luxuries(yes, Virginia, there was life before cellphones) because they are disabled, or a college student, or a parent, or "just because" they deserve it. A CELLPHONE IN EVERY POT(FDR would have loved you). There is an irony in that don't you think?

Now, since you like to focus your entire posts on being disabled, I will chime in. I must go now Mrs. Annoyed, because I would like to spend some time with my DISABLED veteran husband before he gets up at 3:30 in the morning to go work.....for money....so we can pay our bills....including our cellphone.

Did I mention that he is a disabled veteran???

Good Night Mrs. Annoying. I hope you find some peace and a lessening of bitterness about your condition. Life isn't fair, and that can suck big time, but life is also what you make out of it, including the attitude with which you live it.

I wish you well.

WELL I APOLOGIZE THAT YOUR DISABLE HUSBAND HAS TO WORK.....MAYBE PERHAPS YOU SHOULD BE PICKING UP THE SLACK? IM NOT SURE, IM NOT SURE OF YOUR SITUATION. MY WHO DEAL ON THIS DISABLED THING WAS PEOPLE WERE RANTING AND RAVING THAT "WELFARE WHORE" ARE GETTING THESE PHONES....AND I CLEARLY STATTED THAT I AM NOT ON WELFARE, MY HUSBAND WORKS, I VOLUNTEER WHEN I CAN, AND THE STATE SENT ME A FREE PHONE. I DIDNT DEMAND IT, DIDNT ASK FOR IT...DONT CARE IF I HAVE IT. BUT YET THERE ARE PEOPLE HERE JUST GOING ON AND ON WITH THE SAME LAME COME BACKS ABOUT GET A JOB, GET THIS GET THAT. IF I WASNT DISABLED AND COULD RELY ON MY BODY TO FULLY FUNCTION 100% OF THE TIME, YOU BET YOUR ASS ID BE OUT THERE WORKING. AS I DID FROM THE AGE OF 13 UNTIL 29. I MAY NOT GET PAID, BUT I DO WORK. SO REALLY....STOP BITCHING. I SHOULD BE THE ONE BITCHING FOR DOING THE WORK YOU STUCK UP ASS PEOPLE WONT TO BECAUSE YOU ARE TO BUSY POLISHING YOUR BMW'S OR GOING TO THE FANCY HIGH PRICE YOGA CLUBS.

I'd like to also point out that its asshats like Annoyed who take idealistic young teens like I was and show them the reality of welfare. We'd go out busting our humps to pick up canned food donations in near freezing temperatures, then sort, box, deliver, shelve, etc for endless hours only to hear some worthless sloth whine about how much they hated green beans or corn or spam or whatever.

I dealt with countless "Annoyeds" throughout my time in working for charities, who felt like they deserved the world on a platter, instead of being truly greatful for the hundreds of hours, the sweat, the donations it took to get them their weekly or monthly free goods.

On the other hand, when I volunteered at the VA, I had borderline psychotics who were truly grateful for 5 minutes of my time, for a thank you or a God Bless You (services they actually WERE owed) that it made losers like Annoyed seem so much more pathetic by comparison. I talked with men who bled and suffered and toiled for my freedom before my father was born that were so happy for a few moments of my time and a homemade thank you plaque that some broke down into tears at my visit.

Grown men and women who had no reason to thank me for my extremely meager efforts were extremely humble and bestowing of endless gratitude I didn't deserve. People who had lost limbs, bones, use of organs to defend me when my parents were twinkles in someone's eyes were thankful for my visit. People like Annoyed, who exist off the charity of others, are contemptuous of the endless labor it takes to keep their worthless selves from starving in the streets. Perspective makes her look all the more useless.

YOU IDIOT, I WORK IN THE CHARITY. MAN, I MUST HAVE FOUND THE WORLDS DUMBEST BLOG. I WORK WITH THE VETS. I WORK WITH THEM ALL. I THINK YOU ALL READ WITH YOUR EYES CLOSED.
• badlands4 · 1 month ago
Oh my...stay away from the poor vets. You sound unhinged, and they have already sacrificed enough. They don't need to sacrifice themselves on the alter of your unhinged-ness when they come home or retire, just so you can feel even more self important than you do now.

My husband is a disabled veteran. Yes, your favorite thing to be a martyr about. Not only is he a veteran, but he also won the disabled jack-pot. Shouldn't you be giving him your computer? I mean, he beats you out in the pity, who is the king of the disabled party, right? That seems to be how you base your entire life, judging by your rants here. "I am more deserving than any of you are because I am disabled". Shhhh...don't tell anyone, but you are NOT the only disabled person in this country, and.....again, shhhhhhh......most disabled people, including those with the most challenging disabilities W-O-R-K for money to pay their bills, AND, they manage to volunteer as well.

I AM SIMPLY TAKING UP WHERE YOU LEFT OFF AND WONDERING WHAT WE CAN EXPECT YOU TO GIVE US.

I MEAN, HE GAVE THIS COUNTRY OVER 20 YEARS OF SERVICE SO YOU COULD COME HERE AND ACT LIKE YOU HAVE BEEN ACTING. SURELY YOU SHOULD NOT BE SO SELFISH AND KEEP FROM HIM WHAT HE *DESERVES*. HE COULD REALLY USE A NEW COMPUTER. WHY SHOULDN'T YOU BE THE ONE TO GIVE IT TO HIM?

Shrug, no you're just a halfwit who can't form complete sentences, speak without caps, make a rational point, or talk without insulting others. You are the single stupidest commentor I think we have ever had on this blog, and that's saying something with people like Dino and Hanni here.

If you are on disability, but can work, you are a free loader. If your husband has a job that affords you all these perks, and you have all this money, yet are STILL using government services for the poor, that means you're a welfare fraud and a criminal.

And that you think that the infinitessimally small amount you paid in taxes entitles you to a lifetime free ride shows that you're incredibly arrogant in addition to being useless and stupid.

It's people like you that make the average person hate welfare cases. Be ashamed of yourself you waste of space.

Hi Annoying, I've when back and read all your comments. You really are a jerk! So far you have admitted that the program is a luxury because you said you have the luxury of owning one of the free phones. You also taunted everyone by saying you didn't have to come up with the money to pay for it, WE DO! When called out on it you pulled out the redneck card! Wow! Somehow you are a single parent with a husband that works for the cable company? Get your story straight troll.

Hi I'm Annoying, I demand free goods and services and when the people that are paying for them complain I call them rednecks and brag about all the free services I'm getting. I am a net drain on the economy and the reason we have Zero as President because he offers me free stuff. Yet I'm the good person here because I support charity! (Mostly for me)

What say you, Annoying? I need to be amused today!
• ANNOYED · 1 month ago
HEY STUPID RETARD, NEVER ONCE DID I SAY I WAS A SINGLE PARENT. READ THE BLOGS AGAIN, SINCE YOU SAID YOU READ THEM ALL. I HAVE BEEN MARRIED 15 YEARS. OH AND IM SURE BECAUSE YOU THINK THE PRESIDENT IS A ZERO, IS BECAUSE YOU ARE A RACIST, I CAN ALREADY SEE THAT COMING. AND ALSO I CHANGED MY NAME FROM CANDY TO ANNOYED BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE A BLOG WHERE PEOPLE HAD COMMON COURTESY AND RESPECT FOR OTHERS AND DIDNT BASH ON PEOPLE THAT ARE LESS FORTUNATE. BUT THAT WASNT THE CASE, SO IT ANNOYED ME. SO ONCE AGAIN FOR THE 100TH TIME GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT. ONLY THING IVE SAID IS THAT IM DISABLED, NOT THAT IM A SINGLE MOM. UNLESS COARSE THATS WHAT YOU THINK DISABLED MEANS SINCE YOU ARE SUCH AN IDIOT.
• Greg in Alabama · 1 month ago
Now I'm a stupid retard. You are a bigot and a troll. Take your 12 year old taunts back to the playground.

I know our president is a Zero. That makes me racist? Oh woe is me, a freeloader has called me a stupid, retarted racist. How ever will I live without your approval Annoying. I shall die of shame. Do you really think its racist to disagree with Zero just because he is black? I have disagreed with Democrats for quite some time, not for reasons of race but because their policies are stupid and attract stupid followers such as yourself that think I and the rest of the US owe you a free phone that you give to your kid.
• badlands4 · 1 month ago
Common courtesy and respect for others? Did that really shoot out of your fingers Candy/Annoyed? Oh, the irony!

And let's point this out. Mrs. Useless tells us how shitty we are for opposing useless giveaway programs, yet admits that, despite not needing the services, and having no shortage of money, that she is defrauding what she believes to be a good service for the needy. By her own admission, she is draining limited resources from a government resource for the poor. Because of her they have less money to help those SHE considers needy.

It takes an amazing amount of hubris to call others needy when you're actively screwing over people you believe deserve a free service.

What a piece of human garbage.
• MRS. ANNOYED · 1 month ago
YEAH...WELL LETS SEE. IF I DEMANDED THE PHONE...SAID I DESERVE THE PHONE GIVE IT TO ME...THEN OK, YEAH ID BE GARBAGE. BUT CONSIDERING, IT CAME TO ME RIGHT INTO MY MAIL BOX, BECAUSE IM ON DISABILITY, ITS MINE TO KEEP. I EVEN CALLED THEM AND SAID, UMMM I DIDNT BUY A PHONE. AND THEY SAID THEY WERE SENDING IT TO PEOPLE ON DISABILITY. SO BASICALLY YOU ARE JUST TALKING OUT OF YOUR ASS ABOUT SOMETHING YOU HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE ABOUT. HAHAH FRAUDULENT. OK. IF IT STATES PEOPLE ON SSD GET THE PHONE, AND IM ON SSD, WHERE IS THE FRAUD IN THAT????
• Greg in Alabama · 1 month ago
Actually Annoying, you are garbage because you've admitted that you don't want or need the phone and continue to use it.

These are your words...

THIS PHONE IS A SAFETY MEASURE TO PROTECT THE LESS FORTUNATE IN THIS COUNTRY.

You, by your own admission, do not need this safety measure and are not one of the "less fortunate" so you are garbage. Now, come back here and tell everone why I am a stupid, racist, redneck, retard for pointing out the program is worthless for giving phones to people that do not want or need them. (Your own words)
• CrimsonPolitiTider · 1 month ago
God forbid we pool our resources to help those who truly need financial assistance to get a job, get job training, feed their family, etc. A cell phone with 70 minutes? That's *so* extravagant. You ever think those people might not be looking to scam the system but might actually need a way for potential employers to contact them so they can get back on their feet? I'm not saying people aren't trying to game the system, but NOT everyone on welfare is looking to cheat taxpayers. I just don't get how people can call themselves Christians, when Christ would be ashamed to see how you act when the state tries to help those who need help the most. If you don't agree with social services, don't accept them and don't vote for people who support them.

And more people graduate from higher education institutions per capita in Alabama than any other state in the US.
• badlands4 · 1 month ago
I can't agree with you on this if we are speaking about cellphones. You want to discuss food stamps, home heating assistance, food pantries, etc, then that is a worthy discussion. This is not. Cellphones are a fairly recent invention, particularly widespread cellphone availability. So far, only one person that has posted here(and I am pretty sure it is not in a way Jesus would be proud of )from what I have seen(and I may have missed any more)has free internet with which to come here to lecture, swear, scream, demand, etc about these phones.

So, unless the rest of the people with the "me me" attitude are posting from a public library or other free internet source, they all find enough money to pay for the internet, which is more expensive than the cheapest throw away phone and monthly minutes.

You notice that nobody is saying "We need help to put more food on the table" or "We need help getting our heat turned back on in a freezing winter". It is all about wanting perks. They seem to have no true sense of poverty. The poorest person in THIS country is middle class in most of the developing world. You are not poor because you do not have a cellphone. You are poor when you sit on the side of the road in Africa while your baby dies of malnutrition because you didn't have the money to get to the closest medical aide tent, and the baby dies before you can walk there.

I have lived overseas, and have seen poverty that was beyond my worst imaginings. Free cellphones are not at the top of their list, yet they don't complain. In the time I lived overseas and actively volunteered in the local community, I never once, not once, heard any complaining or any sense of expectation. What I saw was a heart wrenching gratitude for the smallest kindness and aid. I also saw the poor(which would be poor with a capital P in this country) give what they could not to the poorer. It wasn't giving up a cellphone, so another could have it, it was giving food that they could not spare to those that were in even more need.

The difference between that situation and this situation is the sense of entitlement for even the pettiest item.
• sanity · 1 month ago
I wonder how many would gladly give up that cell phone for an increase in the equivalent in food stamps?

What was it...$29?

While it may not seem like alot, to those that are barely making it (I unfortunately have to raise my hand here - family of 4 supported by me by choice) or for those that don't have anything, that $29 can buy quite a bit from the right places. For me, that would be an extra couple of packages of hamburger that could be separated and frozen for the month, or a turkey, maybe two, that can be cooked and cut up for many uses throughout the month.

A cellphone is a luxury, a want - not a need.

I MIGHT relent and say a cellphone would be a needed IF the person had no home phone available so potential job employers could contact them. That would be the only time i would relent on my thoughts on cell phones. Otherwise it is a waste, and would be better suited to increasing the persons food stamps.

I made no mention of me being on foodstamps because I am not. I support a family of four with one income because it was planned that way so my wife could stay home with the kids and not let a daycare raise them. There would be a parent with them at all times.

SafeLink Wireless: A Government Welfare Program For Cell Phones

Did you know that your tax dollars are subsidizing cell phones for poor people? That’s what SafeLink Wireless is, according to the website:

SAFELINK WIRELESS® service is U.S. government supported program for Income eligible households provided by TracFone Wireless, Inc. In order to participate in the SAFELINK WIRELESS® service, persons must meet certain eligibility requirements set by each State where the service is to be provided. These requirements are based on a person’s participation in a state or Federal support programs or by meeting the Income Poverty Guidelines as defined by the U.S. Government. SAFELINK WIRELESS® service is limited to one person per household.

Personally, I always thought of a cell phone as a luxury. You have it if you can afford it. It’s something you earn. It’s certainly not something that should be part of a welfare package for “the poor.”

I mean, what motivation do people who are poor have to make themselves better if they can go through life eating subsidized food, living in subsidized housing while talking on their subsidized cell phones?

Yea that's pretty much it. People around the world are starving, and we classify people as "poor" if their children take a bag lunch to school or if they have to have dial up instead of DSL.

Virtually no one in this country knows what poverty is. Most of our homeless have it better than any in Africa except for the ruling classes.

I don't have to justify myself- I have no reason or need to lie.

You can assume all you want, but that just makes you the ignorant one, but, you have more than proved that now haven't you.

See, there is a difference, I am old enough where i don't worry about being cool or part of the in-crowd. That is another reason why I believe you to be immature and young.

Plus, I don't try and fit in here, I speak my mind and my opinion, some may agree with me, some may not - but that is called a discussion and debate. I am always willing to give people the benefit of the doubt until they have shown themselves to be ignorant. Some people it takes awhile for that to show through, you seem to jump in and show ignorance right from the start. I can see your a real go-getter.

OK, why is wadnick2003 not listed in the thread? I see several commenters who are far more obscene, why is the person who asks a pertinent question blocked from the thread?

My point was that ms annoyed was most likely annoyed because her comments kept getting blocked. Or not. It seemed a rather unbalanced and erratic troll, at best.

Anna, I keep lobbying for software that replaces profanity with cartoon curse words, but my plaints have fallen upon deaf ears, %$&@$# ^*&@%$!!!!!!!

So, we have a screecher in the thread. No actual point or reason, just screeching. How lame. Now go get your foodstamps and sell them for more meth, screecher.

I was wondering if it receives a check from Axlerod&Emmanuel or if it gets direct deposit. These government funded trolls are so lame, computer illiterate, and clueless that I actually feel bad for them. Till I start laughing at her stupid ass!
• 2hotel9 · 1 month ago
Oh, and where is its "valid argument" for illegally using a piece of USG property? Have not seen it yet.
• SOUR DULCE · 1 month ago
And let's point this out. Mrs. Useless tells us how shitty we are for opposing useless giveaway programs, yet admits that, despite not needing the services, and having no shortage of money, that she is defrauding what she believes to be a good service for the needy. By her own admission, she is draining limited resources from a government resource for the poor. Because of her they have less money to help those SHE considers need.

WAY DOWN BELOW.

Did not really want to reply to anyone. I am jsut amazed of how quickly misinformation spreads. There is a difference between government supported and government paid pogram. Why don't you all read about this program, how it is adminsitered and how it is paid for? Not one cent from your taxes go into this program. I am tired of all this sites commenting on things they do not know but fit their political views--I, ME, MINE!

http://www.reuters.com/article/pressRelease/idU...
• Greg in Alabama · 1 month ago
Hi SAT,

The Lifeline program is not funded from federal taxpayer
dollars, but rather from contributions to the USF by telecommunications
carriers collected in part from the Universal Service Charge billed to cell
phone users.

http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/phonebills/samplePhonebi...

Because telephones provide a vital link to emergency services, to government services and to surrounding communities, it has been our nation’s policy to promote telephone service to all households since this service began in the 1930s. The USF helps to make phone service affordable and available to all Americans, including consumers with low incomes, those living in areas where the costs of providing telephone service is high, schools and libraries and rural health care providers. Congress has mandated that all telephone companies providing interstate service must contribute to the USF. Although not required to do so by the government, many carriers choose to pass their contribution costs on to their customers in the form of a line item, often called the “Federal Universal Service Fee” or “Universal Connectivity Fee”.

Its a mandatory "contribution" so its a tax. The companies pass it on to regular citizens. To pretend this isn't taxpayer money is a lie and disingenuous.
• 2hotel9 · 1 month ago
Because this is one more thing the government should never have become involved in, period. That is all that counts.

How pathetic that some people are actually proud of being dependent on the government.

Have you no self respect?
• Greg in Alabama · 1 month ago
She is proud that she get free services that are so vital that she gives them to her kid! Personally, I think she is a liar and a troll. Her story changes almost as much as her name changes. At first she need it to keep for emergencies, then she became disabled, next she works as a volunteer so its some weird reward, then she had a husband with a good job with all these free goodies, then it became a program that the state just "sent" to her and she gave it to her kid because her husbands job pays for her and his phone and now she is telling us that her husband has just received one. A compulsive liar much like some of our other trolls.
• SOUR DULCE · 1 month ago
I NEVER SAID I NEEDED IT FOR EMERGENCIES. I SAID I BARELY EVEN USE THE DAMN THING. I WAS DISABLED BEFORE I GOT THE PHONE,I DIDNT JUST BECOME DISABLED. I GOT IT BECAUSE I AM ON SSD. YES MY HUSBAND DOES WORK FOR THE CABLE COMPANY, AND WE DO GET ALL OUR STUFF FOR FREE. NOTHING TO LIE ABOUT THERE. WELL, ITS HALF OFF ON A DVR, BUT STILL CLOSE TO FREE. THEY JUST SENT IT TO ME SAID THAT I NOTED I WAS MARRIED, AND IT WAS TO BE GIVEN TO MY SPOUSE. THERE IS NOTHING TO LIE ABOUT. AND WHATS WITH THE TROLL WORD ALREADY? ARE THERE A LOT OF TROLLS IN ALABAMA? LOL. YOU SAID I MADE THE STATE SOUND BAD, YOU ACTUALLY MAKE IT SOUND WORSE.
• Greg in Alabama · 1 month ago
I NEVER SAID I NEEDED IT FOR EMERGENCIES. I SAID I BARELY EVEN USE THE DAMN THING.

Annoying, you make my point for me. You barely use it and have said you don't need it. If you can't see that then I feel sorry for you. I said you are a troll because your story changes a lot. First you said it was a safety measure for poor people.

THIS PHONE IS A SAFETY MEASURE TO PROTECT THE LESS FORTUNATE IN THIS COUNTRY.

You then proceeded to tell us that you were sent the phone because you were disabled.
Next told us that your husband had this great job with all these free perks and you had your own phone so you gave the free phone to your kid to put in her backpack. Then you told us that they sent your husband a free phone. You know, your non disabled husband. What am I supposed to think? Plus you act like a classic troll. You yell, scream, rant, change your log in name, ect. If you think that me calling you out on your behavior makes the state of Alabama sound worse than you, then I know you are a troll. If you really don't need the phone and think that the program is a "safety measure" for the poor, then you need to have the power of your convictions and call SafeLink and cancel your phones.
• SOUR DULCE · 1 month ago
I CANT HELP IT IF THATS WHAT THE GOVT SENT ME. IM ON SSD. THEY SENT ME THE DAMN THING. IT COMES ALREADY ON, IN A BOX WITH A PHONE #. LIKE I SAID, IT IS "MEANT" FOR THE LESS FORTUNATE. ME BEING DISABLED IS LESS FORTUNATE, BUT I DONT LIVE A LESS FORTUNATE LIFE STYLE. BUT I GOT A PHONE ANYWAYS...WELL 2 NOW. SO I GAVE ONE TO MY DAUGHTER TO CARRY FOR EMERGENCIES. SHES'S 9. AND ONE TO MY BROTHER, TO CALL ME IF HE STAYS AFTER SCHOOL.
• Greg in Alabama · 1 month ago
I thought your husband had a job with the "cable company"? Why does he need a free cell phone? Every time reply you prove this program is a waste of time, money and effort. Are you going to give this "vital" phone to your kid to keep in his or her backpack?
• SOUR DULCE · 1 month ago
YES HE DOES WORK AT THE CABLE COMPANY. HE ALREADY HAS A FREE PHONE FROM THAT. I DONT KNOW, THEY JUST SENT IT. I GAVE IT TO MY YOUNGER BROTHER, WHOM I TAKE CARE OF.

• 2hotel9 · 1 month ago
I have been treating the majority of the pro-free sh&t commenters in this thread as trolls, purely for entertainment.

Of all the comments in this very long thread there have been only 3, possibly 5, that were legitimate. The rest were simply leftards spewing, and that is how I have treated them.

And GiG? SAT is a paid spambot. Every place anyone posts about safelink it shows up, does not even have the intelligence to change its talking points in any manner. Typical leftard.

AGAIN, THE TROLL WORD. YOU GUYS NEVER CHANGE YOUR TUNE...BUT GET MAD ABOUT MY CAP LOCK. NO ACTUALLY ITS EASIER FOR ME TO TYPE IN CAPS DUE TO MY DISORDER, THAN TO TRY TO USE THE MUSCLE, WHICH SEEMS SO MINUTE TO YOU, TO PRES AND HOLD SHIFT EVERYTIME.

Do you really expect me to believe that you have the muscle power to write 900 word screeds over and over again but do not have the muscle power to move your pinkie 1/8 of an inch to hold down the shift key for .02 seconds? How do you type Q, A, P or the question mark? They require the same muscle power as you would take to press and hold the shift key. You've really jumped the shark with this one.

IT MAY SOUND CRAZY I KNOW. BUT I ONLY TYPE WITH MY INDEX FINGER, MIDDLE FINGER AND THUMB. LMAO. IT DOES SOUND CRAZY....BUT LIKE I SAID, I DONT FEEL LIKE HOLD THE BUTTON DOWN. PLUS WRITING IN ALL CAPS GETS YOUR GUYS PANTIES IN A BUNCH, WHICH IS KINDA FUNNY.

so what disorder is this?
and how is it tied to your poor typing skills?
do you not work?
<bq>Her "disorder" is chemical based. Notice she shows up right after her ACCESS card got monied up and she got her "stuff" for the week.</bq>
Don't get me started. The wife works in a court downtown (for a judge) and there was a guy in the other week suing for back benefits because *he was a crackhead* (literally) and was demanding compensation from the city. He lost. Dig up that article, if they printed it. Wow.
• SOUR DULCE · 1 month ago
WELL, I WISH I COULD TELL YOU THE FACTS, BUT WE DONT KNOW THEM ALL AS OF NOW, SO THE DOCTORS ARE NOT SURE AS WHAT TO CALL IT YET. I HAVE SOME SORT OF DISORDER WHERE MY BODY/IMMUNE SYSTEM ATTACKS THE MUSCLE IN MY BODY THINKING IT SOME SORT OF INFECTION. WHICH CAUSES MY BODY TO SWELL, INTENSE PAIN, AND WEAKNESS, THERE ARE SOME DAYS I CAN HARDLY WALK. SO WE'VE BEEN TRYING FOR YEARS TO FIND OUT EXACTLY WHAT IT IS, AND IT HASNT BEEN FUN. BUT GOING FROM A FULL TIME STUDENT AND WORKER AND BEING VERY ACTIVE IN SPORTS AND WHAT NOT, TO HAVING TO SIT AT HOME HAS BEEN REAL HARD. MAY NOT SOUND HARD, BUT IT IS. AT 31 FEELING LIKE A 90 IS PURE MISERY. YOU GUYS CAN POKE FUN AT IF IF YOU WANT, IM SURE YOU WILL.
• 2hotel9 · 1 month ago
Yea, here in the west end of PA their are 3 ongoing lawsuits of the same type. One woman wants 14 years worth of "back" benefits, even though she was drawing the full boat all that time. Lawyers, they are the problem.

Sour Dulce has proven unable to be reasoned with. By her own admission she's a thief, a welfare fraud, a tax cheat, and a variety of other things. That she has the gall to praise the program for helping the needy, then stealing not one, but TWO phones she doesn't need is dispicible, and, if she was a decent human being capable of it, should cause her endless shame.

These phones weren't meant for the "less fortunate". They were meant for people who couldn't afford them as a way to help them get a job. As you can both afford cell phones, and are not looking for a job, you. have. no. business. receiving. one. of. these. phones.

That one was sent to you means nothing. I was sent an offer by the VA to get a free lump sum of money since I was a Veteran. Except, I'm not a vet. My father was. I could've cashed the money, but if my happy self went to court, I doubt either a judge or jury would accept "they sent it to me, so I cashed it, knowing it wasn't meant for me" as a defense. I'd still go to jail. And worse, I'd be stealing money meant to help Veterans for purely selfish desires.

This is what you're doing. You don't qualify for the phone, and you know it. Your income is way too high. So legally, you're committing fraud. And since you're SOOOOO in favor of this program, you're stealing from deserving poor people. Someone else might not get a phone cause your greedy self got two. Morally, you suck. That it's one of your little pet causes mean you're damn near garbage.

I am so sick of hearing what wefare recipients are getting for Free
medical food housing heat and now cell phones! What the hell is this country coming to We have elderly that worked all their lives and cant get a dime and needs to have 100 ,00 taken out of their small ss cks every month towards their medical cant get food stamps because they have working siblings to help out and then our veterans that got nothing at all not even a welcome home parade But we can give our hard earn taxes to someone who chooses to live the life style they are in They own cars better then the one i wark hard for but they get one free and they even titale it and register it for them ok Am i totally insane or is this the way we treat our elderly and our brave man that has even something to this country or do we give it to the ones who sat on their asses and let us do it all for them
Cell phones should be given to the disabled and elderly incase they fall and can get to a phone at least they can hang a cell phone on them some where But we will not do that we will give it to someone that can spend they i mean our money on the weekend in a bar or eating lobster til that we so generously gave them from the hard earned money and the generosity of our heart Get real american freedom isnt even free Our men and women that kept this country safe Should get the FREE THING THAT YOU WANT TO GIVE OUT TO SOMEONE THAT HASNT EVEN A THOUGHT OF WHERE THEY WILL LIVE OR SLEEP OR EAT LIKE A HARD WORKING FAMILY THAT LOST THEIR JOBS sO YES GIVE IT TO THEM WHY ASK THEY WILL GET IT ANYWAY THAT GET EVERYTHING ELSE SO WHY NOT A CELL PHONE !!!!!!!!!!GIVE THEM A JOB IF YOU WANT TO GIVE THEM SOMETHING THEY ARE FREE ALSO !!!!!!!
give it to the elderly and the disabled most of all our disabled vets
May God Bless AMERICA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another moron that doesn't know what he's talking about. The Safelink program is paid for by the Universal Service Fund so I do get a bill every month, my phone bill.
• 2hotel9 · 1 week ago
Really, that was supposed to be used to hook up every classroom in America to the internet. Then it was supposed to be used to run internet connections to all rural households. Now it is supposed to pay for cellphone service for the "needy". And it never was used for its original purpose. Thank you, Algore, you lying son of a b$tch.
• Bosh · 1 week ago
Two things. This is not an Obama thing. It started years before he took office. The phones are paid for by lifeline and the program is ran by Obama. And its difficult to get a job and such without a phone to be contacted and such, it can help a lot of people that are in a tight spot.
• Anna · 1 week ago
Cell phones are not necessary for someone to obtain employment. A regular phone is all one needs and there are an abundant gov't and charity programs that supply the needy with free phone service.

I have to say that I am really upset about the way that people view the poor. I am a single mom, I work 2 jobs ( I work 7 days a week - and that doesn't include taking care of the home ! How many of you high class people can say that) When my husband left me, I got stuck with the bills - all of them including health insurance. By the time the bills are paid I am broke. To top it all off, last year I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and had no home phone, computer or any link to the outside world. It was then and only then that I received one of these phones. ( and to those of you asking how I can leave this message if I have no computer. I am using the one at the library - it's free) You people act like some of us choose to be poor, and that because we are hard on our luck that we are not happy. When my husband was here, I was considered middle class, and by no chioce of mine, that was taken away from me. Who do you think you are to say I am lazy or that I am not out there trying to pursue the american dream ????? I work my ass off everyday to get the little that I have, and that's not enough to survive with. There is nothing that you can say (as hard as you have tried on this site) that would make me ashamed of who I am or that I have a free phone.
• spotsrc2 · 3 days ago
and to the one that says you don't hear us talking about not having enough food on the table or have our heat turned back on. I can't afford to have my natural gas tank filled for our heat so I have none, and food is the 1st thing I purchase. You act as though everyone is out there looking for a hand out. You are an idiot
