Say Anything: News For Regular Readers

    I'll repeat my comment:

    Half of me screams "YES!!!!"

    The other half "NO!!!!"
  • Joe Brooks · 4 years ago
Does this mean I can post here again?
  • Rob · 4 years ago
Well, if you go back and read the comments of the above linked post, Carl, you'll see that I never threatened anybody with litigation. I offered to provide Jeff Johnson with Jadegold's email and IP information should he wish to pursue libel proceedings, but I explicity offered no opinion as to whether or not such proceedings had merit.

Jadegold was the one who decided to attack me professionally.
  • Joshua · 4 years ago
I was torn about previous banishments, but this one clearly crossed the line. No doubt I will miss hearing a dissenting voice, but there in no way you can let this forum have a potentially drastic effect on your entire career, even if what you said was very, very vague and pretty much void of details. Better safe than sorry.

The identity of Jadegold seems to be a fascination to many, myself included. Make sure to keep us up to date Rob.

We should have a Hall of Fame of banished posters. Jadegold would be a first balloter in my book.

Quite the dick move on Jade's part. And I also echo Aaron's sentiments as well.

He offered little by way of substance. But it was fun to push his/her buttons to see what kind of delusional reaction I could get.

you know, I've seen people banned from forums for spamming links to tubgirl, but I've never seen anyone booted over rebounding idle threats of litigation. Purdy dorky guys.
  • King of Fools · 4 years ago
I don't think the site is losing much. Jade was best known for knowing everything, and whenever he/she was called on the carpet (like today), the immediate response was personal attacks unrelated to the initial argument.

I would take it very seriously if someone figured out who my employer was and threatened to contact them based upon disagreements we've had in various blogs. I've seen this back when USENET wasn't a desolate wasteland (just simply a flame fest) and it isn't pretty and such behavior should not be condoned. The threat of such behavior shouldn't be met with a roll of the eyes; that is a scummy thing to do.

    Long. Time. Coming.

Flame-wars are great for traffic, but after watching a dozen or so (and joining in a couple myself), JG's tired old schtick wore thin. It became obvious that he/she didn't have any real convictions and was purely contrarian for its own sake.

    Good riddance.
  • richard · 4 years ago
    Typical likwad response.
  • likwidshoe · 4 years ago
I do understand the JG issue but where does it stop likwad is an ass to everybody that has a differing opinion.

    Completely. Over. Your head.

Maybe I'm just an ass to asses. ;-)
  • likwidshoe · 4 years ago
It doesn't take you long to prove my point richard.
  • richard · 4 years ago
    That is two now.....

Up front I would like to say that I am patently against banning period however, I do understand the JG issue but where does it stop likwad is an ass to everybody that has a differing opinion. Rob if banning is going to be used on your blog I would like to suggest some guidelines up front that explain why you would ban somebody.
  • Rob · 4 years ago
Hmm...I do have a link to a commenting policy that certainly encompassed this situation, but I see now that it must have gotten deleted during some database problems I had a while back. I'm going to have to update that.

There have only ever been two bans here, Richard. And I certainly don't ban people based on whether or not they're mean to people. My first ban, Gary Gunnels/Hus, was done because his comment frequency was drowning everybody else out. On some posts he would comment seven, eight...even nine times in a row. Plus he was tedious, going on and on about stupid things and wasting everybody's time. I'll grant you that his ban is debatable, but you can't accuse me of banning people based on their beliefs. There are plenty of people here who still disagree with my point of view.

As for Jadegold, I think everyone understands that threatening somebody's professional career is way, way over the line.
  • LoadTheMule · 4 years ago
Gee, 12 responses and none of them from Jadegold. How do you spell relief?

Actually, like Aaron, I've mixed feelings about this. However, it's Rob's blog and he does have a point about not supporting (with bandwitdth) someone who attacks him professionally.

I'll miss pimping JG, but there're always new trolls to play with.

    Regards...
  • Rob · 4 years ago
I have mixed feelings about it too. I don't like banning people, but this was over the line.
  • slarrow · 4 years ago
Pardon me for wanting to sing, "ding dong, the witch is dead...."

Good for you, Rob. First, there are a number of rules of netiquette JG long ignored that you let slide. But, to paraphrase the Vegas tourist commission, what happens on the Web stays on the Web. I'm wary enough about people breaking this rule (which is why I go by "slarrow"); heck, I even disagree with Jeff Johnson on the etiquette of pressing a libel case, even as I enjoy the smackdown he administered to JadeGold. But threatening to crusade against your livelihood because of a spurious claim of breach of confidentiality (in which he has no standing, being neither a client nor a subject of your profession) seems to me an automatic ejection.

I've long wondered how you had the patience to let JadeGold hang around so long. JG's presence tended to distort your threads; instead of the comments being about the topics, sooner or later they all became about him against all the ignorant/stupid/dishonest people (i.e., everyone else.) It's a bit of a shame because JG apparently has a decent mind. But decent minds abound on the Web without having to descend into personal viciousness every single time. Now that he's gone, perhaps I can comment more with no fear of getting railroaded by a troll.

There's always that loudmouthed guy at the bar who knows everything about everything and won't stop until everyone acknowledges that they are stupid and dishonest and that his package is bigger than theirs. It's always a relief when the guy gets tossed out of the joint. Thanks, Rob!

Since we are sharing the reasons we come to SayAnythingBlog.com I would like to point out the specific friday-themed posts.

    *grin*
  • Rob · 4 years ago
    Hey, thanks guys.

    I try.
  • LoadTheMule · 4 years ago
    A final word, Rob.

One reason I visit (and often post) here daily is I find your choice of articles to be broad-based and varied enough to pique my interest. I also like the mix of political opinions among the regulars who post comments.

The one good thing about JG's passing is people will be able to stay more on subject now. That's a plus and I looked forward to more spirited (yet courteous) debate of the issues.

    Thanks for your blog.

    Regards...

Oh, good. That means that I can post here again. Whew.

Hey, as for the allegations, if you actually do need a lawyer, you know who to call...

And you may not have a case for libel, but defamation, maybe.
  • Rob · 4 years ago
I won't need a laywer. I'm not going to pursue anything like that. But thanks for the offer.
  • Mr. Bowen · 4 years ago
Y'know, part of me is sad to see that lunatic out of here. Jadetroll was almost as much of an argument for Conservatism as Rob, Likwid, or Aaron.

On the other hand, deep down inside me, there's a little kid doing a happy dance whilst pumping his fist in the air.

    Hehehehe... funny mental image developing...
  • King of Fools · 4 years ago
Yea, I see it too. (A mini Billy Idol wanna be with an 80's spike cut with frosted ends, and the first is wearing a biking glove sans fingers.)

    Downright embarassing!
  • Seth Williams · 4 years ago
Damn, that was really a lousy thing for JG to do.

On the upside I get to picture Mr. Bowen doing his Billy Idol impression. The man has no shame! ;)
  • Carrick · 4 years ago
Rob: All I can say is it's about time. JG has added little to this blog from the get-go, and had to resort to threatening other peoples livilhoods when backed into a corner.

JG was so over the top, she even made the other trolls look good.

Carl "WHOOSH" B: you really need to think a bit before you post. All your snide little comments demonstrate is that you have no grasp of the facts or what was even being discussed, as in "WHOOSH" over your head.
