Say Anything: Entire Neighborhood In Detroit Abandoned Because Of Crime

• Moszer · 9 months ago
I guarantee they keep voting Democrat too.

Amazing isn't it.
• Hoodlumman · 9 months ago
This has always floored me. Look at Detroit... New Orleans. Bastions of crime and corruption. Then look at the most bankrupt states in this financial crisis. All fill through the ranks with Democrats. Yet Republicans are to blame, right?

And Moszer is right - they'll never stop voting Democrat.

Wow, that is amazing.

I'm from Michigan -- born, raised, and currently live. My mother was born and raised within Detroit proper. When I lived in California no one believed the stories I told about Detroit.
When I was 16, I went to the Renaissance Center (now GM headquarters) which is the epicenter of downtown Detroit. All of the major streets of the metro area radiate radially from that place. On a Tuesday afternoon at 2 O'Clock, I stood looking down each street and for 2 minutes, it appeared as though I was the sole individual in the city. It was a bizarre feeling.
At that time, I had a friend who lived in a particularly terrible part of the city. When I would risk my life to visit him, I rarely ever saw any other signs of life in the neighborhood.
I have a co-worker who lived for several years within the city. He claims nothing bad ever happened to him.

But recently, a body was "found" frozen in the basement of an apartment building. The residents knew about the body, some even called police who did nothing. It wasn't until a journalist from the Detroit Free Press pressured the authorities to remove the body that something was done. He had to call several times and an article was written about it.

I could tell more stories, but they're all unbelievable. Sadly, this used to be a very beautiful, rich city. It very quickly went to hell.

Michael K. -

East Side of Detroit (Grosse Pointe)(no jokes about Grosse Pointe Blank, please) born and bred myself. Same stories to tell and much the same feelings about the place today. Unfortunately I still have some family in the area, way out in the North suburbs, but they tell me the rot is reaching out to them as well. Really too bad that a city with such a rich history and heritage is crumbling like this. I wonder what the Fords, Fishers, Dodges and other car founding families would say about the place today.

Philly has had neighborhoods like that since the late seventies.

SigFan,

I'm originally from Mount Clemens (Clinton Township). My parents still live there. I currently live in Ann Arbor.

Go back 15-20 years and visualize the community activists, "strongarming" the local banks not to "Redline" these areas. Fastforward to 5 years ago when these "lovely homes" had become worth , with the flood of money provided by the Fed., so much that a re-finance could occur with which a newer "Caddy" could be bought. And now this scene can be visited in every Democratically controlled city in America. And now, with your inherent wisdom, you've given control of our entire country, and, don't forget the "bombs" to one of these "organizers". Way to go you stupid idiots.

If the people had guns and were allowed to use them for self defense, this abandonment wouldn't have happened.

This also proves that one cannot depend on the police for protection and the first line of defense has to be you, the resident.

Maybe the problem is that the black people are impoverished and in the cycle of poverty etc. and therefor their only option is crime due to lack of education, lack of options, lack of support from anyone. When there is no tax revenue coming from this area, how the fuck can they pay for pigs to murder the black people? How the fuck can they pay for schools? How the fuck can they pay for preschools? How would they be able to pay for a minimum income? The answer? Tax the fuck out of the rich. Redistribute the wealth. Ban the civilian possession of handguns. Make college free.

Hest, did you read that crap off your socialistic/communistic teleprompter? I doubt you are capable of a independant rational thought.

Anyway you moron, the women resident that was in the video was not black so I suspect that it was a mixed racial community.

Dude, you are a total nutjob. I remember when black people used to work and have an American Dream. Then LBJ took it away when he started the "Great Society". He started never ending welfare with the consequence being that in order to keep getting welfare you had to be poor and not work. It was a ploy to create a dependant voter block that would always vote for their masters so they could continue to get a handout. The democratic party essentially put blacks on voter plantations and you only have yourselves to blame.

Are you listening to yourself or are you really bad at sarcasm?

Detroit did this to itself precisely by doing the things you're advocating.

Redistribute wealth? From those who work to those who won't? That's called SLAVERY.

They had MORE than minimum incomes and pissed it all away by driving the wealthy out, and without those who owned business and invested in new businesses started up by local not-yet-wealthy Detroit citizens who wanted to some day be wealthy, they eliminated business after business after business and worthwhile jobs that paid more than enough for workers to hold their heads up high were destroyed.

Without an economic flow, the middle class were turned into lower class and the lower class into third-worlders right in the middle of America.

Black people were turned into victims and homeless and penniless instead of homeowning neighborhood making citizens along with whites. Human self-preservation instinct being shortsighted, they all did this to themselves but when the collapse happened, didn't bother learning and taking the time to fight the tough fight to make up for their mistakes, they just abandoned the city and moved on elsewhere, like locusts.

Detroit is what this nation will become if the Obama administration's antics don't succeed in getting the nation's attention and getting this country to pull their collective heads out of their asses. It's what we will deserve if we are stupid enough to go on running things based on envy, and a willingness to ignore our consciences and make theft in the name of jealousy, denial, laziness, and emotional weakness into a way of life, because we will remove from each other the very motivation to do anything at all.

That's what happens when no one has anything more than anyone else. There's no higher level for money to flow to a lower level. There's no difference in potentials. It's stagnation. A dead pond. A discharged battery. Nothing happens. The end.

Until the Black people in Detroit get their heads out of their collective asses, this city will crumble. Have you noticed how many cities with Black leaders are failing. And no I am prejudiced. I just see a trend here. Many Blacks thought Black leadership would lead to empowerment. Sadly they were not aware of the complex ins and outs of politics.
Even as Barack Obama serves as President, many Blacks still cling to the thug life. I would abandon a crime-ridden neighborhood, too. But this time, I can't blame Whitey and neither can you.

All of those posting here that are supposedly from Detroit ... are just NOW seeing Detroit's demise?

This has been going on since the 80s. It has been a train wreck in slow motion, thanks to Reaganomics and the deceased mayor Coleman A. Young.

After the riots in 1967, there was something called the "White Flight" to the northern suburbs of Warren, Fraser, Royal Oak, etc. This hurt Detroit's ability to attract new business, but it was still doing well because people were buying cars.

Coleman Young managed to divide the suburbs and the city along 8 Mile Road. Consider that, and then add to it the weakening of the UAW, and the table was set for what we have seen over the past 25 years in Detroit.

Yes, the people of Detroit will almost always vote Democratic, because there are so few Republicans that can succeed there. Rev. Keith Butler tried several times to run for mayor, and he never really captured Detroit's hearts.
• Korla Pundit · 9 months ago
Mayor Dinkins almost, ALMOST, did this same thing to New York. By allowing the race baiters and the Sharptons and the Jacksons and the ACORNs and all the rest to incite riots, to incite murder and arson, to make a hero out of cop killers and lunatics like Colin Ferguson, he and his cronies almost destroyed the greatest city on Earth. Thank whatever god you wish that Giuliani pushed him out of the way and brought us back from the brink.

Get ready, America, for your 2 choices: push Obama out of the White House in 2012 so we can perhaps repair whatever damage he does to this nation, or accept a Detroit Nation. It's your choice.

Unfortunately, there's no place to flee if the majority make the wrong choice. There was an America to flee to back in the early 30s. Now there is no escape. We must resist.

Resist.

It's not the fact that democrates run Detroit it is a city ran by blacks.
i am not racist just calling it as I see it. detroit is 70% black and 12% white I now live in Phoenix where it is 70% white and 5% black and we don't have issues like the D.
• Brutaly Honest · 5 months ago
Hmm, it couldn't have anything to do with the dwindling car industry over the last 30 years could it? Let face it. since the mid 70s nearly half of Detroit jobs have been off-shored to increase profits for investors. And guess what, those big bonus auto execs? They donate almost entirely to the republican party to have laws passed to continue the business of sending American jobs overseas.

What are you guys talking about "gun control"? I suppose more Fox News/GOP fear-mongering. To own and possess a gun in Detroit you have to have apply for a license. If you call prohibiting felons, illegal aliens, and mentally unstable people from buying guns, "gun control", then maybe it's not such a bad idea. What's wrong with having to pass a test that says you know from which end the bullets come out? Of course you can circumvent the license application if you have a state of federal CCW license. But then you still have to prove that you are smarter than a 5th grader AND know from which end of the pistol the bullets come.

Personally, I feel a little safer knowing the 3 time DUI convict and wife-beater down the street can't legally buy a gun. (BTW, the guy still thinks GW Bush did a good job). Then again, the gun laws in this country have been so shot full of holes, that 99 percent of enforcement comes after someone's kid has been killed by someone too stupid to own a gun.
