    My answer: Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and the other oppresive states we count as "allies". Not to mention Russia.

    Rob, I'm with you. By making tyrants worry about their own power and giving oppressed peoples hope that they themselves might find freedom, Bush has done a great and good thing. But for our purposes, this action keeps the peoples of a hostile region concerned with their own affairs instead of either looking to harm us or allying with those who would like to harm us.

    It's all been a calculated gamble, but Middle East "stability" was killing us anyway.
